Wait misread your post. Are you seriously asking me to define common sense for you?

If you want to know when it's become a short run or not then just apply common sense
Come on ***** it's not that difficult a concept. If 1 of the circumstances is a run and the other isn't, logic dictates that there must be a point in between (a certain distance?) where it changes from a run, to not a run. Whether it's the law or common sense or whatever you want it to be that defines where that point is doesn't matter. I'm just pointing out a funny little illogical rule.

what you're doing is showing that you don't understand the concept of 'common sense', or why laws are written in this manner.

What does this have to do with my point? Why are you talking about common sense? I really don't understand what you're trying to say here or it's relevance

As we saw from the Leicester player being booked after taking his shirt off to show the message to his chairman underneath there is no chance for common sense to be used in high level sport anymore, the officials are scared of reprisals so stick to the letter of the law without ever using their brain. It sucks but as long as it stays the same for all then nobody can complain.

165/4 after 37 isn't bad but it's the time you'd think they'll accelerate now Buttler has played himself in a bit. A few more overs of knocking the spin around and then aim to get 100 off the last 10. Could still get up to about 280 or so.

Can't speak for County level, but at the ICC Level it isn't the umpires being afraid of losing their jobs as much as it is the member boards just not wanting any grey area for dispute. So they apply zero tolerance to all situations of misconduct, which leads to pretty bizarre decisions at times. Just because the second you allow for any leniency, you create a grey area where the board/players affected will argue and bicker and claim unfair treatment, and it's just not worth it.

This has been a special innings from Root hasn't it? Great shot that.

England could legit go up 2-0 here with another 50-60 runs.

One of his best knocks this even if he doesn't get a ton. A score like this on a turning pitch beats a 150 on a flat one any day.

If you'd offered me England setting 230 at the start of play, I'd have happily taken it.

But having got this far, I'd be disappointed if we didn't set something around 300.
