Yeah Will Young is a 3/4 no question, I hate when they debut guys way out of position and expect them to perform well at the next level.. Maybe stretch him to open, but don't think that'll work. Send him back to NZ and tell him to keep scoring runs, rather than keep him as 13th man. I hope he doesn't become the next Neil Broom, always remember his early series in Australia batting 6/7 or something silly.

Still not convinced of our middle order being Latham and Nicholls. Doesn't have enough punch IMO. Bruce/Chapman were obviously in contention but missed the boat a bit. Need more development in domestic. Hairy Nips had a couple good knocks against weak teams which also helped him. I hope Anderson comes of age.. Not sure that will ever happen at this stage. But this would look pretty good..

Munro, Guppy, Williamson, Taylor, Latham, Anderson, CDG, Santner, Milne/Fergo/Henry, Southee, Boult. 12th man Ishy boy. 3rd seamer role will be interesting.

Yeah, Young still just riding with his old issues we've discussed a lot in past NZ domestic threads, at say 1.10, 3.35 and 5.35. A horrible editing job by PCB all-round, but I'm glad they were thorough enough to include Lockie's six at 7:00. I was wondering how that happened, actually a pretty glorious shot.

Latham himself isn't opening though; he's playing as the strike-rotating #5 guy. Watling definitely seems like the most like for like replacement for Latham in that role should he get injured.
Pardon me, I thought he was opening for Canterbury. Must've been what he was doing at Durham.

Anyway, Latham's not going to get injured so it's all conjecture. BJ can go, but again they're missing the opportunity to give someone 12 months in the environment - just as they did with the Ronchi debacle.

They've decided to add three players to the T20 squad - Phillips, Anderson and Ajaz Patel - rather than just the two.

Kane Williamson (captain), Glenn Phillips, Colin Munro, Ross Taylor, Mark Chapman, Corey Anderson, Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Seifert, Tim Southee, Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Ajaz Patel, Seth Rance.

Someone make a thread.

Hesson confirmed to be coaching Kings XI in the IPL next year. We all knew it was coming - I still think it's disappointing he couldn't have seen the job through to the World Cup, is burnt out but can still hop straight off to commentate in the IPL last year off the back of a full summer. But you do what you have to do as a family man, I guess.

Half a million pay check for 40 days of a year, surely anyone would take that.

Hope Cleaver hits some runs. Seems to be the forgotten man when it comes to NZ wicketkeepers.

But gee, where are all the batsman hiding.

Where is Seiffert?

Also I'm surprised Ajaz isn't getting a run, if hes also in the test squad? But can't fit them all in.

This was expected I guess, he had a commentary gig in the IPL last season and I recall there being speculation on these pages that he would pick up an IPL contract.

Would have been nice (and fitting) if he could have made it to the World Cup. Having said that, the ODI team has been on the stale side since the 2015 WC; I don't know if there's enough time for Stead to bring in any new ideas but it'll be interesting to see how a new coach goes nevertheless.

4 fast bowlers in the side for those conditions. TBH some of them can bat as well such as Logan and Jamieson. TAstle and Ravindra I guess can bat as well. I think it's quite a balanced team. If Ajaz was around he would be playing too I guess.

PCB editor didn't throw in any wickets for the benefit of the small Kiwi market. Just Shan Masood's boundaries uploaded -

ok I'll refuse to earn them 0.01 cents by clicking on the above then.

Jamieson with the best figures, would have liked to have seen his wickets. Disappointing that none for Astle.

Batting troubles for NZ A by the look of it, and Raval missing out on time in the middle. Great to see Ravindra top scoring so far (63 as of now). Should slot right into the starting XI with Wellington when he heads back.

Jamieson getting wickets and keeping it tight in the 3rd seamer role, Ravindra getting some runs (on debut). I'll take that as a productive first 2 days even though we are getting spanked.

Other roles.
Kuggeleijn getting 4 wickets (good), but was expensive (not so good), 2 of the 4 wickets were new ball wickets (good), but they were the lower order (OK).

Spinners. Neither of them getting a wicket, first day pitch though, but both were too expensive.
