Hope he gets lots of "time in the middle" before he gets picked because, you know, that's pretty important.

Pure speculation on my behalf but let's roll with it as it's more fun that way

Everything that I've seen from Warner & his family screams out "damage control" and the powers that be know it plus he's on the nose with the public so he's gone

Team wanted him punted from the hotel and I think that speaks volumes

Bancroft, at best, is guilty of temporary insanity (I don't believe that) and is expendable anyway but might get another shot if Langer steps in

Smith will be back & he's the only one that I feel remotely sorry for
Smith didn't directly do anything other than not being unable to control Warner

remember when warner started being a lot more quiet on field and he was mocked by his teammates

I think that press conference counts as a big fat mistake tbh.
Yep Smith is mostly being punished for that press conference, not for anything else really. If he had have shut up and let the spin doctors get to it he'd probably only have copped the one or two match ban.

Yep it was a failure of captaincy, not a failure of his character (though covering it up was).

Stripped of the captaincy and a couple of tests should have been enough.

Does anybody honestly believe this thing was a one-off incident? And that Smith possibly wasn't aware of the other occasions took place?

You're captain.

You have a major say in the culture of a team - actually, you have the dominant word.

Smith is very culpable for what happened.
It's the job of those who appoint the captain to appoint someone who is fit for the role. Sometimes captains have no control over the team if things begin to turn south, like John Goddard when he captained WI in Australia in '51/'52 and the team fell to pieces with inter-island rivalries. Or Kim Hughes' inability to control the egotistical dickheads Lillee and Marsh. The captain is the authority only as long as others respect that, and people can and do break that.

bigger mistake from the team manager, coach in allowing them to do it tbh
I've spent months trying to imagine how that conversation between Smith/Bancroft and their media/manager person who briefs them before pressers went.

Ever heard the term the buck stops here?
.
In this case it stops with the captain who could, and should, have stopped the behaviour.
