*Official* West Indies Tour of India 2018

Not perfect, but much better from the guys. Holder's level headed batting to support Chase made a huge difference.

I think Ambris and Powell were guilty of hitting out and not trusting their defence. Ambris at least will hopefully learn.

Overall much more like the test team I've come to know.

TBF:
Getting more than 90 overs in, is not too odd in India (or anywhere where conditions favour spinners a bit more), as fast bowling simply takes longer due to its nature.

Sometimes it's just weird that a captain gets penalised for a low over rate. If conditions favour fast bowlers, and if you're lucky enough to have 4 or even 5, it seems wrong to go to spinners, just because the schedule tells you to.

It's not on sky or bt. Unless it's on one of them random asain channels then i don't think it's being televised over here

Hety will learn. He's a superb talent. We'll need to be patient.

Chase is excellent against spin. So far he has struggled against medium fast swing bowling in England and NZ but otherwise has had a decent test career.

Powell just looks the pits. And I can't even tell you the main reason why. I've seen him get out looking lazy, and I've seen him get out looking like he has a terrible technique. Bin him imo. I have alot of time for Chase, there's definitely a test class player in there.

I know Kumar, Shami, Bumrah and Ishant aren't in this match but Yadav is as good of a seamer in Indian conditions as you could ask for. Really good when the ball is older.

Because he’s taking wickets.
You are responding to my question as if I asked "was his selection vindicated in retrospect". I'm asking why he was selected, not if, with the benefit of hindsight, it was a good idea. He was a passenger in England and Ashwin and Jadeja have proved themselves time and time again to be more than enough spin at home. I sound rude here. Sorry, not the intention. Just asking a question.

You are responding to my answer as if the foresight to pick him has not been vindicated. Besides this is the 2nd test now and his form in the first pretty much answers your question .

I haven't been paying any attention to this series. Why is Kuldeep playing?

I think there are a few factors here.

1. He only played one Test in England. He had a poor game, but one bad game was rightly not enough to change the minds of the people who rated him highly enough to select him in the first place, especially since he only bowled eight overs in it, had played well in his other Tests previously, and was awesome in the ODIs on the tour (which I don't put a lot of stock in for Test selection, but they do).
2. This pitch is flaaat. Jadeja and Ashwin have tended to be enough at home when they prepare more lively surfaces, but as this one is a slow road they figured a fifth bowler would probably add more to the side than another specialist batsman. I think they're probably right too.
3. Hardik is still carrying that injury that saw him miss the Asia Cup -- if he was fit they might've gone with a different balance, but as it was I think this was always the right call on the pitches being prepared for this series.

It is vindicated. At the start of the series, would you have picked him though? Why?
Different conditions would explain almost all of it. A lot of the time there is room for 3 spinners in India. Where as he will struggle when even Jadeja and Ashwin may be competing for a single spot in England. Also i think the selectors are using these tests as auditions for Australia, as the selection of Thakur could be interpreted. India may be thinking they'll need another spin option in Australia in case Jadeja and Ashwin prove ineffective out here. Its a prudent concern though I don't think it will be an issue this time given the weakness of our batting. Kuldeep seems to be around the periphery of the squad. It would only take a change in circumstances to see him get into the team and I think the playing conditions and selectorial considerations currently favour his inclusion.
