Yeah I remember that, another one of Darren Berry's more "interesting" ideas. In all seriousness though he would definitely bat ahead of the Chadd if he playsThat's former South Australian #3 batsman Kane Richardson that you've got down at 10, there.
Why's Sangha particularly interesting/ridiculous? Seems like he's got the Grade runs behind him over the past season, at least. He's playing for Fairfield this week against Parra.
Interesting* they picked Sangha. Weird how you can get fast-tracked. Jack Edwards was always going to play after his JLT heroics, but the bloke has a first grade average of 12.
The people demand Bertus.
*Ridiculous.
I think this is the crux of the disagreement -- whether good First Grade numbers are a better indicator of likely Sheffield Shield success than good U19s and JLT Cup numbers, underpinned by **** grade numbers.Dunk was terrible in the Bash last year. Highlight was his bowling tbh. I don't think anyone is looking at him as a Bash player. Probably done.
Jack Edwards has to be picked. I don't care if a poor grade player has averaged 45 for 7 straight seasons, if he's not as likely to do as good a job as an 18 year old kid then he's not going to get picked regardless of how much he "deserves" it. Edwards smashed state-level bowlers all over the park during the JLT. He's probably in the best 5 or 6 bats in NSW regardless of age, deal with it.
Yeah I'm more just talking about the Jack Edwards case. There's definitely been issues in the past with catapulting underprepared kids into representative teams ahead of seasoned pro's. I'm far from familiar with Sydney grade cricket, or grade cricket in general, or Sydney in general except the one thai place I always go to near the market in china town that has the best thai curries, but I have a hard time thinking that many of these Grade batsmen would have, or would, outperform this very talented kid.My original post on this issue was meant to convey that Edwards' selection for the Shield is understandable given his JLT Cup success. Right place, right time and all that. Whether he should have been in the JLT Cup side or have a State contract to begin with is a different issue, but he's taken his chance so I can understand them picking him.
Tough decision but id leave out Valente. The 4 other quicks deserve a game and Mennie is capable enough with the bat. I acknowledge that its a little risky but runs will have to come from the top 5.Redbacks Shield squad
Very glad to see Lloyd Pope in line for his FC debut, by all accounts he was really getting some good rip on them in the Futures League game. The batting on the other hand looks pretty light, they pretty much have to play Valente at 7 to avoid an absurdly long tail. On balance I am really not optimistic

Reminds me of how Greg Matthews was still playing (and doing very well) in grade cricket up until he was 50.Anthony Clarke still playing as well.
