Abbott's back in the groove - Hampshire are competitive again. 6-for and hattrick to bowl them to the win. Steyn with 3 & 3 to make 6 in the match on his mini-return too.

How many people have been done on Taunton's Bunsens over the years?
I don't object to Somerset producing wickets that actually suit their spinners. Years ago, my boys used to get criticised for producing wickets that suited Saqlain and Salisbury, and I always thought that was nonsense. If anything, counties should actually be rewarded for doing something to encourage spin bowling. Mind you, Somerset probably take it a bit further insofar as Taunton seems to turn square from the start.

Lancashire have won the race for Richard Gleeson.

There isn't much left at Wantage Road now but you know these unfashionable counties like Northants are introducing Duckett , Willey, Brooks, Stone, Gleeson etc to pro cricket

So whois left in division outside Warks ?

Sussex : Jordan , Archer
Kent : Denly, Bell-Drummond , Billings
1 of the above likely to join Warks in Div 2

The rest ?
Durham : Stokes, Raine, Wood
Leics : Chappell
Middlesex : Robson, Gubbins, Eskinazi, Malan, Morgan, Holden, Harris, Finn, Roland-Jones, Helm, Bamber

I remember when Bell-Drummond was being talked of for England so his career has slipped.

The smaller Midlands teams seem particularly prone to being poached upon. When Durham are poaching Raine, granted for family/geographic reasons, you know how weak they are to resist ''brain drain''.

I also remember the big fuss about Bell-Drummond. I thought he was ok from when I saw him at u19 CWC but nothing like Vince, Stokes, Duckett, Lawrence talent wise that I saw at various WCs but I guess you can say the same re: Root. Clearly just not taken his game to the next level (s).

Got to agree re: Raine. With him linked to Yorks it was a surprise Durham prized him away even if back home because I think we both can agree that Durham have a way to go still.

I think we will see 1 of Yorks/Lancs going down with Worcestershire and you got to fancy them with an immediate return although on paper Middlesex should have competed more this season.

Worcestershire will always find it tough to stay up even with decent ability like Mitchell, Moeen, Clarke, Cox, D'Oliveira, Barnard, Tongue, Pennington, Leach. You got to wonder how many they will lose but right now they are stronger than both potential newly promoted teams by some distance for me.

Lancashire have signed Richard Gleeson from Northants - not sure I approve of poaching players like that, but at least he's a Lancastrian - big bastard too who looks decidedly sharp, though I see he's 30 - still he'll hopefully do better than our last forays to the East Midlands, which produced Wayne White and Nathan Buck

Lancs are no strangers to a bit of poaching (cough, Bunny and Keats) but then even Durham poached Ben Raine thus, the poached becomes the poacher!

It is probably because the midlands are so congested that your little midlanders - Northants, Leics and Derbys - seem weak. Notts seem to be ruthlessly prowling around the periphery. Some of these clubs resemble feeder teams.

Onions first to 50 Div 1 County Championship wickets which I'm sure both of you chaps are aware of. Not too bad.

Had never done prior to signing Daffy iirc, but he wasn't the best investment - to be fair I think, Stuart Law apart, Jennings and Bunny have been as good as any of our signings - and don't forget we took John Wood off your hands a few years ago, and gave you Foxy and Nick Speak ........

I'll get my coat
