Hampshire doing some weird **** with their batting lineup. Last week Dawson at 8 after Gareth Berg, and this week batting 9 with Ian Holland at 3, and Rilee Rousouw at 7
They aren't using the Jon Lewis (Durham's) rulebook on team selection, are they?

Hameed was supposed to be the saviour for us all, England and Lancashire.
I find it difficult to believe he's the same bloke I watched batting for a day at Lord's a couple of years back - there must be a coach somewhere who can get him back on track, but I'm afraid it's neither Chilton nor Chapple

Kent need 110 to win which they should do but Derbyshire have done well there, and you never know? Gloucestershire wallop Leicestershire, probably ending the latter's promotion hopes. Essex and Somerset about to win, placing Hants and the Tykes well and truly in a relegation fight, alongside Worcestershire.

And Durham's batsmen, cough, having had the Friday off, are now playing for their local clubs!

Couple of retirements.

Sean Ervine with immediate effect.

Jimmy Adams at the end of the season.

I'm surprised Glamorgan went out and got Stephen Cook as overseas player when they have nothing to play for in Div 2. Even if they have a young batting line-up.

Durham had S. Cook for half a season last year and he didn't do anything really except the odd knock in the one-dayers.

No squad for Worcestershire yet but will be without Moeen & captain Leach still injured. Main XI : Mitchell, Fell, D'Oliveira, Clarke, Milton, Cox, Barnard, Parnell, Twohig, Tongue, Pennington

Steyn & Vince back.
Rossouw paternity leave.
Could be Hampshire debuts for Soames/Donald.

Full Hampshire Squad

Jimmy Adams (4)

Liam Dawson (8)

Sam Northeast (17)

James Vince (14) Captain

Tom Alsop (9)

Joe Weatherley (5)

Gareth Berg (13)

Dale Steyn (2)

Fidel Edwards (20)

Ian Holland (22)

Kyle Abbott (51)

Essex v Surrey

Much of a muchness for Essex. Don't really have depth but a talented competitive predominantly home-grown tight XI

The depth at Surrey is massive. No Roy , Borthwick, Dernbach due to injury.
Youthful energy of academy products Patel, Jacks, Pope (back from England), Smith, Virdi, T.Curran, McKerr even without S.Curran
Senior pros : Burns, Stoneman, Elgar, Clarke, Morkel

Notts v Yorks

Two clubs with all sorts of problems at the moment.

Should be a Notts Championship debut for Duckett. Slater's 2nd game. Still unavailable are Coughlin, Ball but really surprised spinner Matthew Carter isn't in as he has been impressive.

Jeet Raval comes in for Kane Williamson. Batting looks thin. Bresnan returns after 1 game rest.
Dropped Jack Leaning again. Fisher injured again and joins Pattersom & Coad there.

Somerset v Lancs

This could be a spin fest.

For Somerset no real changes. Just Bartlett can't get back into the squad. Been Green off a 2nd XI hundred replaces Trego. 4 spinners in squad and Groenewald still injured

Tom Abell, Azhar Ali, Dom Bess, Eddie Byrom, Josh Davey, Steve Davies, Ben Green, Lewis Gregory, James Hildreth, Jack Leach, Roelof van der Merwe, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Marcus Trescothick and Max Waller.
For Lancashire there is lots of changes.
Dropped : Hameed, Jones
Back in : Brown, Lamb, Guest, Hurt
Injured : Clark, Mahmood (season)

Tom Bailey
Josh Bohannon
Karl Brown
Steven Croft
Alex Davies
Brooke Guest
Danny Lamb
Liam Hurt

Keshav Maharaj
Graham Onions
Matthew Parkinson
Dane Vilas

Got to feel for Hameed but dropping him seems the right thing to do until his head is in the right place. Yorkshire also now have David Willey crooked, Lyth is Captaining today. Hope Duckett can settle down and rediscover his touch. And of course, keeping an eye on the Surrey openers from an England perspective...

Lancashire supporters may prefer not to look at the scorecard from Taunton; this one's looking like a two day affair.

International Debutant
Burns is on another score here, 69* of 145, with his partner in chrime Stoneman falling early on 12. The other name nocking around at the minute, Denly scores failed on 12 also.

The Rory Burns cold shoulder is becoming a problem now. If they don't want to pick him because they still backing Jennings. Bizarre.

Chuffed to see Ben Slater score a 100 for Notts in only his 2nd appearance for Notts. He hadn't played Div 1 before too.

It's fine. England won the series anyway and Burns has been available to do his thing for Surrey. And I'm not a great fan of debuts in the last test of the summer unless absolutely necessary.

More interestingly, 16 wickets by tea at Taunton today, with Lancashire maybe establishing a first innings lead after being dismissed for 99.

Suppose so and selfishly getting Surrey over the line as captain and being there the whole way will be great. When I saw somerset included vd Merwe and Waller in the squad too I was thinking what are they planning but seamers loving life too. Saying that C.Overton and J.Overton were pretty good on these wickets last season.

I understand there is a second opener slot up for grabs in Sri Lanka...
Talk is they will continue to back Jennings as the left-handed opener and Denly is favoured to partner him. But maybe they will take Burns with as well.
