The cricketing world is ****ed up. India out swinging England by a margin and then coming undone by spin.......weird but enjoyable test match.

Why doesn't Ashwin take his batting seriously? He looks solid for 10 minutes then does something ridiculously unnecessary.

I'm staggered how many multiple variations in pronunciation of ''Cheteshwar'', the pundits/commentators can achieve.

Yeah you're not wrong. But even so, having watched Bumrah and Co hooping it round corners, the last thing I expected to see this morning when i checked the score was Jimmy 0/50 and Mo with a 5fer.

I barely saw Anderson in the last session or in the highlights. I hope he's fit and ready to feast on Indian batting later.

I'm not sure Ashwin's that great outside Asia, his stats have never been that great anyway. Seems more hype from the usual quarters, that back his "potential" with the bat.

Those aren't really terrible averages - and the issue is that the stats only tell part of the story. Usually, when he gets a score, he looks set, has a decent score on board (30-40 something) and then throws away his wicket with very stupid shots/shot selection (see also a game earlier in this series).

See also this innings - he's a decent batsman with decent technique, he could definitely have hung around and gotten a useful score. Tried to reverse sweep Moen early on and got himself out.

I think Ashwin's lack of overall fitness is proving to be an issue. when the conditions suit him and the opponents are easy he can kinda go into autopilot and cruise his way to a century, can even put in some mammoth bowling performances where he bowls 40 overs for 5/88 and stuff. But when conditions are tough and he actually has to apply himself, he fatigues and that's when he plays dumb shots and gets overly funky with his bowling. I think he just gets tired.

But apparently he passed the yo-yo test so....

I just typed "Ashwin" into Google Search bar, then realised I should probably put in his full name or at least part of it. So I hit 'home' on the keyboard, went to the start of the bar (with Ashwin still typed in) and without leaving a space, typed in 'Ravi'. So now it said 'Raviashwin'. Google asked if I wanted to search for 'ravishing' instead.

But wouldn't he get just as physically tired regardless of what the pitch was like? You seem to be describing someone who's mentally rather than physically weak.

Think ***** is saying someone who isn't that physically fit will find it more difficult to give his usual output with increased mental exertion.

He's the mental exertion tbh

There is absolutely no way Ashwin passed the yo yo test. Unless I'm there with a stopwatch myself I'll never believe it.

I think he doesn't try as hard when the pitch suits him. Bowls at 80% gets bagloads of wickets. Physical and mental stamina are linked too, when you're physically tired you can't mentally apply yourself as much - Ashwin gets away being loose with his batting and bowling when conditions suit, but when he need to be a lot tighter he can't manage.

He's also had a pretty poor two years on the batting front - his average has dropped from 34.92 to 29.78. That might partly be linked to home/away etc, but still - I reckon he's a good enough batsman to be averaging 30, even 35+ if he didn't 'throw his wicket away'.

He's not going to get you a ton of centuries, but he should be hitting 30-40-50-60-70 etc every now and again at least.
