*Official* India Tour of England 2018

Can someone please explain to me the actual meaning of ghambhiringh?
It's basically when you make unreasonably pessimistic / negative comments about your team's chances in a match or series, especially when they're actually on top

India better go a bit slow with taking these wickets; won't be easy batting in the evening. That ball from Ishant swung!

Get the feeling Curran will tee off now. Broad isn't going to block either. Either England will get runs or they'll get out. Don't think there will be a slow period of blocking.

Disgusting he is playing despite the fact he has probably been our best bat this summer. You break your finger then as a batsman I am sorry whoever you are in this side you are out of the series.
Laughable England actually think Bairstow with a broken finger is a better option as a specialist batter than Hildreth or Bell. Then again they actually think Jennings can bat (and field) at this level. I think it's worse to pick Stokes as a specialist batter at number 5 to be honest (assuming he can't bowl). A lot of England's side can be described by the word disgusting. Bairstow isn't a particularly good outfielder either.

Moeen did good, shame he batted lower down and it might (or might not have) contributed to him getting out how he did. Curran doing well, should never have been dropped in the first place.

Just as a point of note, Bairstow has a horrible batting average in tests as a specialist batter (28) compared to being a keeper (42). It makes playing him as a specialist batter even weirder. Going into the game averaging 28.11 in 18 tests as a specialist batter and they move him up to 4 too. Typical English type of selection tbh

Only a couple of runs below the career average of Buttler when he was recalled to play as a batsman. Yes Buttler had the gloves on then but he has never struck me as a player who will average 40+ over a long time, too many flaws in his game. Add in the Rashid selection off no first class cricket and Smith has made some big calls this summer. If we fail to win this series he has got them massively wrong.

But Bairstow is a lot better batsman now than he was a couple of years ago so those stats are misleading, he has improved a lot. Everyone was screaming out for him to be at 4 like it would make much of a difference, so here he is at 4

Saw a brilliant tweet by an England cricket scribe

England has a number 3 who wants to bat 4
A number 4 who wants to bat 5
A number 5 who wants to bat 6
A number 6 chosen to bat as a specialized number 7
A number 7 who scored a county championship double hundred batting 3

Curran is batting well again, what odds he is in the top 6 next week?
Number 6 for me.

1. Burns (c)
2. Gubbins
3. Moeen
4. Root
5. Hildreth
6. Curran
7. Foakes (wk)
8. Woakes
9. Rashid
10. Broad
11. Anderson

That's my team for the 5th test right now.

England have such a shitshow going on with their selection in this game it beggars belief. Point of note I know I dropped Stokes. Stokes can't get in the team right now over Curran or Woakes in home conditions. Don't need 6 bowlers either which would be the case if he bats 5 again (I consider Moeen a batter and decent part-time offie, he considering himself a batsman that bowls too. I'd like to see him given a run at 3). Root must be hidden more from the new ball, he can't bat 3 anywhere near his best ( let alone open) at test level. He needs to be at 4.

Root isn't a leader at all and contributed to this all happening. Burns can be captain considering how well Surrey are doing in CC1 with him as captain. He can pick his vice. This won't happen, but I'd do it.

England aren't dead in this game yet of course. Not with the excellent bowling attack they have. It doesn't hide the fact that the shitshow is from 1-6.

That is a truly awful batting line up lol

I can see the point of 6 bowlers in Sri Lanka if they are picking Stokes, Woakes/Curran, Moeen and Rashid from 6-9 but no other time do you need to pick 6 bowlers. Particularly at home.

In tests:

2016/17 season ave 39.83
2017 season ave 32.41
2017/18 season ave 36.07
2018 season ave 28.88

Bairstow averages 32.24 in 17 tests at number 5 and 10 in 2 tests at number 4. On no basis should be batting 4.

He's not improving in tests. In fact the opposite as the stats show. He's become a gun player in ODI cricket for England and is improving in t20. He's not improving in tests.

Batting 4 in this team is like batting 3 in a normal team. Jennings is batting like a number 10 right now for this level and Cook is woefully out of nick. Bairstow is not good enough to be a specialist bat at 5 at test level, let alone 4 (which is effectively like being a 3 in the team)

It is for you, someone that doesn't follow FC or county cricket at all. Nor cricket it seems based on you saying Bairstow improving in tests, when in fact his FC average is tailing off.

You also think England should try Morgan and Roy next as openers in tests, neither even play FC cricket anymore and are both failed middle order batsmen in FC cricket (and would be in a whole world of trouble opening up in tests).

I'll ignore you from now on don't worry. Not really sure why you're on a cricket forum.

Curran's a real gem. Temperament is so good.

This is payback for the Jayant Yadav runs in India, I guess.
