*Official* India Tour of England 2018

I'd select Burns, Gubbins, Mitchell and Jennings over Cook. You may think otherwise but England have had top order struggles for so long and he's always at the heart of it.

You always say 'nobody scores runs' but Cook last three hundreds came on two super duper flat decks and one where the pink ball refused to swing! Where were his contributions when The Ashes were alive? Stoneman was contributing. Plenty of others contributed. In fact for a while now, England have won games because of Anderson and Broad, slightly helped by the fact their lower/middle order have scraped together a par score.

Nobody gets in the side just because their name is Cook. Just because of what they have done. In a team game if you don't address the heart of the problem then you won't improve. Stoneman was better than Cook in the Ashes if you look at the context runs scored in, Alaistar's 200 didn't do anything since England had already lost, Starc was out and the pitch was reported! Jennings is averaging higher than Cook this series and I'm pretty sure it's been like this before where others have just had the chop.

Problem with England at the moment. No quality spin, nobody who can bowl quickly. All of their good bowlers are right arm the same. That, and there top order has had major problems for a long time. This isn't just because Cook has lacked a partner, in fact he's been part of it. Let two new guys come in and see what they can do. Can't get any worse than two walking wickets atm.

cook only scores runs on flat decks in dead rubbers sometimes when you hold your penis right maybe

jennings doesn't score runs

let's think about this for a microsecond bois

Tbf Stoneman was probably hard done by. Can argue he wasn't persisted with enough and was dropped before he could produce that one big knock. He wasn't that terrible in Australia.

He looked woeful against Pakistan. Just looked out of his depth and that he couldn't cut it at this level. Could just be short on confidence though.

England have had top order struggles for about 6 years....during that time Cook has been up there amongst the best batsmen in the world. Please refer to my previous post.

Only if you look at the numbers could you argue that. Once the Aussies saw blood in the water with respect to balls not in his half, he wasn't going to get that big knock.

I really don't understand your problem. I think Cook should be dropped and so do a lot of people. Then, you start to get personal. You ask for names of who I'd select and I name a few. If you reject those names then you reject the notion that county cricket is relevant. Stoneman did better than Cook in Aus. Jennings is currently doing better here against India. Not the first time and it probably won't be the last that someone else just gets booted before Cook. How would it feel as a new opener on debut if the senior guy at the other ends looks more nervous and out of place than you do!?!?! Fresh top order, fresh faces and new ambitions. You can't pick a player based on legacy alone. Cook hasn't done it for ages except on flat ones and other players have performed. You just have some blind loyalty towards Cook for whatever reason. You clearly think differently to me, and that's fine. No need to call someone in idiot.

"Over the last few years, England’s top order has failed in the seaming conditions of home, the turning tracks of the subcontinent and the hard-baked roads of Australia and South Africa. Clearly England have a problem against the moving ball. But it doesn’t need to be moving sideways: just, you know, towards them."

Top order should get a big boost from bairstow not keeping, hopefully he’ll see how it improves his numbers and want to stay there and let Buttler/Foakes take the gloves.

So basically you're saying England have failed just about everywhere... Sure you are not Australian... ?

The fatherhood theory has some merit re Cook & Ponting imo.

I would be surprised if either of Williamson, Smith, or Kohli have children before 32.
That is generally the age when people 'want' to be parents, I am to drop soon but before thirty so mid twenties and very early thirties is good... It depends on the age of their wives as conceiving later has dangers.
