*Official* India Tour of England 2018

Popped out for a couple of hours and came back to this. England's ability to be absolutely abysmal once again to the fore. Has there ever been an England side that regularly batted as poorly as this lot? Perhaps Root could explain why it was a good idea to bowl first in conditions that bore no resemblance to Lord's. Just smacks of complacency really. India, tbf, have outplayed them with bat and ball. We spend the day being told how challenging conditions are, but not much sign of that when we're bowling.

Pretty good start nonetheless. Barring some huge collapse this is one of the best overall overseas days India have had in ages.

I guess Virat had some serious chat with Pujara before this test about scoring abilities. There's seems to be a change in his approach.

This is what happens when you're way ahead in the game. You can score relatively carefree and get hundreds as well, even in tough conditions. Will be really interesting to see how the next test pitch is.

I will actually have to say that Dhawan has played quite smartly this innings.
Definitely a conscious effort by both him and Rahul to look for scoring opportunities square of the wicket and milking third man. They've not been jabbing at everything off a big front foot thrust either.

I'm such a filthy fairweather fan when India plays away. The match is practically decided and suddenly I'm interested.

Why on earth has Root hooked Rashid after he took a wicket ??

This is hopeless captaincy. Root is clueless. It’s not even schoolboy, it’s below that.

Gets the breakthrough and has dismissed Kohli multiple times in series and gets hooked. Root can **** off with his sheepish captaincy. He’s scared shitless of doing anything positive as captain.

No hiding place in the slips. It can often follow your batting form. See Jennings & Cook.
It isn’t just form with Jennings. He literally isn’t good enough with the bat or in the field for this standard of cricket.

Not sure I agree. Runs still need to be made in test cricket especially against good bowling attack.
