Serious question, if someone managed that stats as their overall average, would they be considered a better cricketer than Bradman? You're probably taking a Top 5 batsman and bowler in the same player.
Sure but he won’t maintain that batting average. It’s only so high because half his knocks have been red-inks. Averaging 50+ is just a guide because of what it tends to correlate with (consistency and tons). It means a lot less if someone’s doing it via not-outs.

Bowls beautifully in England, though. And his contributions with the bat have been really, really good. But world-beater as an allrounder? Nah.

Well of course he won't maintain that average. I was using it as a hypothetical.

Yeah but he provides a neat illustration of why judging said hypothetical by averages alone hides a lot. Guy averages 50+/<25 with the ball Is more valuable than Bradman? Depends on what’s behind those averages. If it’s tons and 5-gets, sure. If it’s red inks and cheap 3-fers, no. If it’s like Woakes with red inks and taking a few 5-fers, still no but that’s a ****ing valuable player.

International Captain
Pitching it up, Broad and Jimmy too short. Less said about Stokes’ spell the better
Listening to Harmison on cricinfo and he says that was deliberate from both bowlers as a response to the slowness of the pitch and the initial lack of swing. Both dropped it back of a length to contain. Subsequently with the pitch drying a little and the lacquer coming off the ball they are beginning to pitch it up looking for the swing.
