If the 2019 Ashes started tomorrow, would Curran still be the one to make way for Stokes?
Yes, because tomorrow would be immediately after the second test.If the 2019 Ashes started tomorrow, would Curran still be the one to make way for Stokes?
Gets in ahead of “specialist batsman” Buttler though...Yes, because tomorrow would be immediately after the second test.
Woakes came as the replacement for Stokes, but then performed much better than Curran (who had done exceptionally well in the first test).
If you ask me, Stokes does not deserve to replace either Curran or Woakes, on current form alone.
Damn this sucksBhuvi confirmed out for the entire series.

It really is amazing the ridiculous precision with which they've managed to screw this up. In India's entire schedule of games since 2015 this is the ONE series you absolutely needed bhuvi fit for. Bunch of clowns.
Cloudy, 5-10% chance of rain and temp about 21-23.So, what’s the weather like in Nottingham, cos it’s peeing it down in my part of Yorkshire and it’s set in for the day too ?
Er, about that...Stokes is the incumbent and rightly so and is also a gun so he’ll get a lot more flexibility. If he’s smart,
6 test tons and 4 michelles is why he is rated. No other all rounder in the world that isn't a spinner can do anything like that at present. That is why he is rated, maybe overly so but he clearly isn't the most over-rated cricketer in the world you need to give your head a wobble.Stokes is the most over-rated cricketer in the world.
Not really people mostly ex pro's act like he averages over 45 with bat and under 30 with ball. Hence 'over-rated'. Not saying he isn't good, he's a good cricketer of course. But he isn't exceptional.6 test tons and 4 michelles is why he is rated. No other all rounder in the world that isn't a spinner can do anything like that at present. That is totally the opposite of what you said before then as you said and I quote " Stokes is the most over-rated cricketer in the world "Not really people mostly ex pro's act like he averages over 45 with bat and under 30 with ball. Hence 'over-rated'. Not saying he isn't good, he's a good cricketer of course. But he isn't exceptional.
What is the hope for Buttler from Smith & co?
We are to believe he is picked as a specialist bat, therefore presumably an average of 30-35 across 8-10 tests would be considered a failure? Or is the long game to have Butler keep and free up Bairstow? Even if Butler can average somewhere between 30-35, surely Bairstow would need to average 45+ to justify keeping Butler in the team, considering Woakes, Ali, and maybe Curran are already better test bats (if Curran is not better already, he most certainly will be before too long). This is all before even acknowledging Ben Foakes.
The fact that with the gloves Bairstow has scored a 70 and 93 in 3 innings this series shows he isn't an issue and should carry on with them. Buttler is on thin ice but being made vice captain will probably be kept in anyway even though he isn't a test player.Based on the two tests in this series, Buttler is the luckiest selection for this match. But that does ignore the two tests against Pakistan at the start of the season, where he performed much better. The problem for me isn't so much his lack of runs, but how he went about his batting at Lord's. There is a reason why batsmen have preferred not to play MF bowling whilst taking a leisurely stroll down the wicket. I don't know if that's something he has regularly done, or an experiment to deal with the swing. If the latter, maybe he'll learn from the experience and bin it.
Personally I'd like to see Bairstow concentrating on his batting and Buttler take over the gloves, even though Bairstow is reputed not to be keen. Anything that improves our top 5 has to be a good thing.
I think you're putting words in my mouth. I still think he's the most over-rated cricketer in the world, nothing I said changes that. I then elaborated to say I think he's good but not exceptional. Apparently you just have a problem with life. Recommend a break, somewhere sunny. Don't let your head hit the door too much. That is totally the opposite of what you said before then as you said and I quote " Stokes is the most over-rated cricketer in the world "
So which statement is correct or do you talk out of your arse all the time?
Fair point. Maybe this series does represent a long term improvement in how Bairstow performs in the top 5, although I'm going to defer judgement. Someone was saying that be bats far better in the top 5 when we bat first, which obviously won't always happen. Edgbaston supports that view, as does Lord's really, as he didn't bat particularly well there and was lucky to reach 20 before eventually settling down. The fact that with the gloves Bairstow has scored a 70 and 93 in 3 innings this series shows he isn't an issue and should carry on with them. Buttler is on thin ice but being made vice captain will probably be kept in anyway even though he isn't a test player.
