If Bairstow is exhausted by wicket keeping in tests - which would be understandable - why don’t they share the gloves? Bairstow is a decent keeper but not superior.

There must be some value to the security and consistency of having the role for him.

Why doesn’t the best keeper keep? Or at least Bairstow figure out where he is best batting. Still not sure what Buttler is supposed to bring aside from excusing the inept top order once every ten innings. Other than that it’s either Root or Bairstow mostly contributing with the tail helping too. At home at least.

The thing is as a keeper he averages far more than when played solely as a bat. Swings and roundabouts.
Yeah, but he's generally batted at 7 when also a WK hasn't he? I don't know. I won't pretend to have massively strong views on the matter.

Maybe Root just didn't fancy having to manage six bowlers.

Yeah he doesn't want to give up the gloves because it gives him job security, which is fair enough (even though I think they'd drop him like a cold spud if he wasn't making runs for an extended period and Buttler was), but he could still be the "official keeper" even if he let Buttler do it for a session here or there.

There was a promo whether Indian team's shirt will open or pant for the series showing Ganguly opening his shirt at the Lords balcony and an older brother opening the pant of a younger brother who is watching cricket. Now, Pant is selected in the team. So what opened exactly, I am not sure.

Bumrah in. Meh. I don't know what the management sees in the dude over Umesh tbh.

Hope Pant scores a few. A Trentbridge greentop on day 1 against Anderson and Broad is probably the most brutal debut conditions possible tbh.

Yeah, this is where I don't like Virat (and I think it is pretty safe to assume Virat makes all the decisions regarding the XI at this point). He keeps dropping players at the drop of a button.

Nah don't like the selections. Hardik is useless, Bumrah for Umesh is also not something I agree with.

Not sure how the Pant for Karthik will work - but I guess with 0-2 down and Karthik's utter failure that change had to be made as Pant is in the squad
