Never truly understood the hate for Kohli a good player should not carry too much burden and just captain the team on the field and bat/bowl themselves... Everything else should be manged as separate and by other people.I don't mind Kohli's actual captaincy; they just need to structure their management better so he doesn't have so much say over selection (or at least put someone with a more sensible selection philosophy than him - ie. not Shastri - on the panel to balance it out). On-field he's definitely better than Root IMO.
Nah, we won't even take wickets over there. It'll be a bloodbath even if Smith and Warner won't be there.Aus will be an easier series than this tbf.
Haha India actually did this in SA earlier this year. There's no pitch on which five seamers are required. Ever. Unless one of them really ****s the bed.
So did SA in the same match. I thought it was tosh then too.Haha India actually did this in SA earlier this year.
The Amla 311*? Swann was playing in that one, but we left him out for the next test and went in with Pietersen as our frontline spinnerDropping the spinner is a guaranteed way to find you need one. Last time England did so was (I think) that match against South Africa at the Oval where Amla and Kallis hit about 8 million.
I wonder when Stokes will have to face the ECB disciplinary committee.Stokes will either have a week off or come in for Curran, who has obviously played well but is 20 and will keep.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, I guess my point is that there's nothing wrong with having Sam Curran in the freezer. There should always be something in the freezer.
The 2003 match against SA at Headingley was another case. Five seamers because it was Headingly, and sure enough we lost by plenty.Dropping the spinner is a guaranteed way to find you need one. Last time England did so was (I think) that match against South Africa at the Oval where Amla and Kallis hit about 8 million.
If Stokes comes in then he comes in for Buttler if I was picking the team. Jennings dropped for Burns.I wonder when Stokes will have to face the ECB disciplinary committee.
Beyond that, I think you're probably right about Curran, even if it should really be Buttler who steps down; his role of specialist number 7 is looking increasingly redundant. Mind you, six bowlers would be a lot if Stokes did replace Buttler.
I'm starting to think the vice captain role doesn't really mean anything for England. I have no idea why Anderson didn't maintain it after the Winter, unless he didn't want it. Thought his experience would be a really good thing to have with a young and relatively untested captain. Then again, I'm sure his input into talking to the bowlers, fields , team talks etc, hasn't really changed much.If Stokes comes in then he comes in for Buttler if I was picking the team. Jennings dropped for Burns.
Stokes becomes an impact bowler option, Curran is the left arm impact. The 3 better bowlers Anderson, Woakes and Broad. Then you have a spin option.
Have to pick the best team for the opponent and I feel that's Stokes for Buttler and Burns for Jennings.
Stokes if I had my way would never play for England again. But seeing as he will I'd bring him in for Buttler.
Buttler is vice though despite being a "specialist" lower order bat and gash in the slips. So we will see what England do. Either way bare minimum Jennings gets dropped and either Buttler, Rashid or Curran makes way for Stokes.
I'm not keen on dropping Curran, could knock his confidence (and quite unfair) at such a young age. Easier to drop Buttler or rotate Rashid out. Depends what the conditions like before a ball is bowled. Imo anyone that gets dropped should stay in the squad with the group as they are playing well together.
