I'm not sure he'd even make a full strength Zimbabwe side.
Tbf, he'd probably be batting at 1st drop for them as a teenager by now, and probably thinking about only bowling part time with Brendon Taylor trying to convince him otherwise.

He has some serious batting talent (as an allrounder- not as a batsman per se), and if he could stop spraying the ball around, be a more than useful all-rounder. But #3 seamer? Big challenge for the short sprayer.

Lets see how close he gets to being the next Trent Boult. I've seen him bowl a lot of pies. And his E/R in county suggests it is more than common. But his average and S/R suggest if its swinging with a Dukes ball, those pies become jaffas.

Good prediction. Both Buttler and Rahul are in the form of their life, albeit in ODIs. Will be awesome to watch if they can transform that form to tests too.

Would Pujara count as a disappointment given the low expectations on him that surely he can only exceed?

Howsie

International Captain
Sam Curran plays test cricket for England? Yikes. Watched him play some games for Auckland during the summer and couldn’t believe he was their overseas player.

Probably not so much. He wouldn’t be a big disappointment considering everyone thinks he will fail, just like a big surprise wouldn’t be Root getting out on 63, 59 and 72 as the first 3 scores he makes.

I don’t think he’s quite ready, but I do think he has a future. He has filled out a fair bit more than he used to be but has a long way to go.

He’s only playing because of the injuries England have to Woakes and for whatever reason they keep picking him Wood. That said, Porter probably deserved to play.

I dont think theres much expectation from Ashwin either
Really? I’d say he’s pretty much the leader of the attack. The pressure on him to perform away from home especially considering the weather recently in the UK is huge! I think his batting could also be very important to the series. If he can consistently score between 30-50 batting at 8 which he’s been there and done it then that sort of thing goes a long way in England.

I'm not even convinced he'll actually be selected.

10:12am Here is Nagraj Gollapudi's first update from Edgbaston, and it's going to get you thinking. The Indian slip cordon taking catches in training today: Dhawan, Rahul, Kohli, Rahane

He also reckons Shami, Ishant and Hardik could be playing. He hasn't seen Umesh mark his run-up...untill now. Three specialist fast bowlers is a possibility.
Looks like no Pujara unless they've done something hilarious and dropped Vijay. Also looks like only one spinner (and I'm less convinced it'll definitely be Ashwin than most - but he's probably slightly more likely).

His bowling with the kookaburra was horrid. But that batting was impressive.
