The problem SA have is that there is nothing to change really, other than strategy and application.... bringing in de Bruyn or Klaasens is not gonna change anything. And the bowling is fine.

Philander is actually looking quite competent against spin.
EDIT: I shouldn't have said that; immediate signs of desperation.

Good series for de Bruyn to miss but Klaasen should be playing. de Kock struggles royally against offies in the Republic and was never going to score many here.

Look, our top six just has three guys who have proven that they can bat in these conditions. Elgar, Amla and Faf. And I'm not even certain that Faf has a ton in the SC. I'm confident that Markram can eventually cope in these conditions. Not so certain about De Kock and Bavuma. Philander will always do a job but he is a number 8.

De Kock just has no defence against spin. I'm not much of a batsman myself but that angled bat is just a glaring technical flaw.

Well played to Sri Lanka. Dimuth was absolutely brilliant. Not spoken about as highly as de Silva and Mendis but definitely a vital cog in this team. Don't have to comment much about Rangana and Perera. Everyone knows how good they are, especially at home.

Watching Philander bat Hopefully was a wake up call for de Kock. It was tough out there, but not impossible.

Dimuth is probably our best batsman in tests with Chandimal and Mendis. It is a shame he got injured for the last series as he generally plays pace well too..in terms of a top 5, we need another consistent opener with DK, Mendis did ok there tbf. DDS getting better at 3,chandimal at four and then we need Mathews to fire at 5. Still need a decent #6 but imo dickwella could bat there if Kusal perera bats at seven with Dilruwan at 8..fairly reasonable top 8

de Kock's technique has always had this flaw, he corrected it to a degree but it will never go away. But I'm overall worried about the general batting at the moment; I'm wondering how much losing McKenzie as a batting coach is hurting along with the fact Gibson is a bowler. Benkenstein is good, but feel he is more of a fielding coach. I would like us maybe to bring in a proper technical batting coach considering that batting is our biggest issue at the moment.

Elgar has been our best Test batsman for a few years imo. Generally scores runs wherever we play. Markram is too inexperienced outside of SA for me to comment yet.

But Faf and Amla are on their way out. I don't see either of them around in 2020. No one is knocking the door down to get into this Test team. You could chuck Klaasen and de Bruyn, and probably Bavuma to be fair, into the ODI team and they will go okay. But other than Markram we don't have anyone around the mid 20s who I feel can cope with varying conditions in Tests.

I know we have a bunch of younger players coming through and I hope by the end of the year they get introduced into the team to atleast feed of Hash and Faf while they can.

The fast bowling is in good health. Dale wasn't at his absolute best but he didn't look like he was out of place here. Vern did what I expected him to do. Maharaj and Shamsi needed to do better. It frustrates me because Maharaj is our best spinner post isolation.

Tbh, England and NZ both want a good strong SA batting line up with depth. If SAC depth return to the levels of Hudson, Dipenaar and Cronje, we all suffer.
