I don't think it's thats bad a strategy. You can attempt to go for the throat and bowl them out quick, but if that fails you're left bowling your last 20 overs at set batsmen without your best bowler.

Its a bit defensive minded, but by getting those 5th bowler overs in when on top, you're kind guaranteeing that you have to chase a score within a certain range, whereas when you try to bowl them out you're either chasing something really low, or something really high if it backfires. If you trust your batting -like Kohli does- you take the safer route.

This is where Yadav not being able to bowl most of his overs up front can hurt us. Ball still swinging a bit though so he may yet do some damage.

Stokes has played himself in but if he doesn't kick on this innings is going to look really bad
This is the same as his champions trophy semi final knock. Just getting the balance wrong of attack/defense. Just too negative and defensive. He doesn't need to be hitting sixes for a positive approach - just more positive with looking for singles. Not hunched right back on his wicket when facing spin.

In Stokes' slight defence here he is just back from injury. Made 90* for Durham in a t20 last week but even that was a **** knock. Never got in the game, Durham were 59-3 after 10 chasing 200, with Stokes 31* off 37

They would have been bowled out if he didn't stick around. The others must learn to play spin. This isn't his fault.

It started of as a good innings, but he really should have gone at least run a ball once he had played 30-40 deliveries.

Another flaw of #BatDeep - if you struggle to score quickly enough, you've sacrificed the bowling strength to defend a low score.

England looking well under par here.

It's not his fault the position england were in. It's still a poor innings. You'd expect an international cricketer to at least have scored 65 if they are going to bat this amount of time. It's not like wickets were falling at the other end for most of it. Buttler was going along serenely.

England don't have the bowlers regardless unless you think Jade Dernbach or Harry Gurney should make a return to the side, or get Anderson or Broad off the physio's bed.

If they get bowled out in the next couple of overs it's definitely not a poor innings. How does SR matter when you've not even batted out the full quota of overs
