12 H Howarth; Coach Richard Reid; too difficult to get Sneddens in.

SI has by far the better attack, with NI probably the better of the batting.

Really strong batting but a bit light on bowling.

How are Healy and benaud (I'm assuming) related?

Yeah needed Healy to keep so his kids can be reserve players . . .

you can get rid of them for Vic Richardson and Trevor Chappell if you want to avoid cheating. Still got plenty of bowling options and someone can keep I'm sure

Anyway not a lot of specialist bowlers or batsmen in the Aus family team, almost exclusively all-rounders. I wonder if there's something to that, having strong cricketing siblings helps develop all round skills maybe because you bat and bowl a lot against each other at home growing up.

Still kind of cheating, but I would've been tempted to include Healy and Starc and call them related.

Reserves is a bit of a stretch.

Husseys are a good shout as well, which makes the batting ridiculous.

The rounder thing makes some sense. A lot of the RSA players were also allrounders or started their careers as allrounders.

heh let's just do that then. Solves the keeping problem and gives another Strike bowler.

We both had to cheat a bit to get a wicket keeper in, neither team manages to find a frontline spinner and both are packed with allrounders.

Very similar results.

Australia could do it but they'd have to pick two offies, and it probably isn't worth it.

Hugh Trumble
John Trumble

Alternatively they could pick the Benauds, but it'd be hard to squeeze John into a useful role given how strong the batting already is.

NZ without cheating;

1 T Latham
2 R Latham
3 J Crowe
4 MD Crowe
5 BMCullum +
6 W Hadlee (c)
7 C Cairns 2
8 RJ Hadlee 1
9 N Mac 4 (non test player but odi and t20)
10 L Cairns 3
11 D Hadlee 4

or

1 T Latham +
2 R Latham
3 J Crowe
4 MD Crowe
5 G Howarth
6 W Hadlee (c)
7 C Cairns 2
8 RJ Hadlee 1
9 L Cairns 3
10 H Howarth 5
11 D Hadlee 4

No room for Bracewells, Sneddens, McCullums.

This latter team would possibly lose to NZ today (but it may go closer than some people think as the attack is very much boosted with Hadlee), but beat a lot of NZ teams in the past. A lot.

The all-rounder theory does check out with brothers in the Indian case too - Pathans and Pandyas..
It's called the JediBrah Theorem, please refer to it as such

Yeah I was going to make a case for Bannermans over Shaun and Geoff Marsh, but they're kind of needed to get Mitch into the team for his bowling.
The team would win purely through boring the opposition out with it's sheer weight of medium pace seamers

England 'relatively good' XI

John Edrich
Alec Stewart
Chris Broad
Ranjitsinhji
Duleepsinhji
Mark Butcher
Tony Greig
Bill Edrich
Maurice Tate
Stuart Broad
Fred Tate

12th man Ian Greig because I can't think of a trio

An attempt at this was plagued by cases of one good player and one space occupant e.g. Hutton, Greig, Cowdrey, Compton etc.
N.B. Stewart almost a case of the above, but wikipedia says he and Mark Butcher were brothers in law, so Butcher gets in.

Batting allrounders at 7-8 reminds me of Cricsim selection

Bill Edrich at eight looks very odd to say the least. Most of his innings were at 3 where he averaged 51.
