Needed Morgs or Hales to bat 50.
I reckon if Buttler had stayed in. He's the one who really could've disrupted the yorker bowling. Since that didn't happen I've no doubt another poster is going to attack some comments I made earlier.

Aus need Starc and Cummins fit for the WC. There were some absolute pies being served up today.

Set batsmen on the record ODI total by a distance struggling to hit any type of well directed yorker at the death. Including in decent incoming bats with license .

Backs up my point (which didn’t need backing up anyway) that nowhere near enough Yorkers are bowled now. There should be Yorker bowlers that can find the block hole every time, too many of them bowl far too many variants and spray it all over the place and get completely smashed

Starc and Haze. Cummins is unreliable in ODIs. Coulter-Nile might be okay too, though I've never been sold on him, and even someone like Behrendorff would be an outside possibility. Stanlake and Richardson are a couple of years off being the finished article. Stanlake could be awesome, I don't think Richardson's ceilings as high (so to speak) and I think he might turn out to be a better red-ball player.

Tye needs to piss off.

Not many players are skilled enough to hit Yorkers. Why Aus didn’t bowl far more Yorkers and do it earlier is beyond me. Stupid bowling, stupid bowling plans all round

Ben Stokes went for his yorkers and got carted in the Wt20 final. You've watched the IPL? The yorker has varied in effectiveness over the years, initially it was tall bowlers, then they were very ineffective, now it's skiddy bowlers.
The bowling earlier on was absolutely rubbish, leg stump long hops seem to have been the staple of Australian limited overs bowling over the past few years, but it's not as simple as you make out. There are zero bowlers who can find the blockhole every time, but what worked was keeping to mostly one side of the wicket. Very hard to hit sixes off a full ball over third man.

I think there are too few bowled generally, and have for years, but there's a bit more to yorkers in this day and age than just running up and bowling them, especially with less reverse swing now. You've got to plan and know your batsmen. In this case, Root and Moeen were vulnerable because they lack the sort of shot making and didn't move very well to the bowler. Someone like Lynn would get much more power on such deliveries (though I think he's overrated as hell) so would require a more nuanced plan. You oversimplify things. It's not easy to just do, or everyone would be doing it.

Geez you know cricket’s gone crazy when 27 is scored from the first couple of overs and there’s barely any reaction.

Do Australia seriously think they can chase this without a proper flier? Scoring way too slowly from ball one and they are miles behind now with no way back. They should have been aiming for 120 off the first 10 to get some sort of platform to chase this and getting ahead of the rate. At least go for the win and don't be scared of a big loss. If you lose by 300 runs, 200 or 100 runs losing is losing. They have approached this badly to say the least. That innings from Marsh 24 off 30 balls...terrible. So many batter are blatantly scared to get out cheaply teeing off from ball one. Root in England's innings didn't come back for a third wicket 5 wickets in hand in the final over and also pushed his first ball to the offside, so it's both teams with batsmen that need a kick up the arse.
