Best ever all round ODI performance

Doing what he always did. Exactly what was necessary to win the game. If Bichel was scoring a bit slower, Bevan would have just scored a few more.

A better question is what was Lee doing batting ahead of Bichel.
Please - if Bichel had got out, you would have been relying on McGrath to bat. And we all know how that would end.

Bevan and Dhoni have not outs either way. Straight out of the Steve Waugh play book, that even Ian Chapell despises.

mark waugh 57, 5/24 and a catch. Australia posted 198 - West Indies were at 4/177 when Taylor thought Waugh should have a bowl.

That's incredible. Never seen that scorecard before.

Heh, won a few World Cups didn't it

175, 1-32 and a catch. I don't need to say anything about his batting, India had lost 7 wickets for 78 before Kapil lifted the score to 266. Also, he was the most economical bowler of the match.

Without this performance, cricket wouldn't have got as popular as it is right now in India and BCCI wouldn't have made ICC their bee-yatch. The sheer amount of impact this performance had on Indian cricket puts it on top of the list IMO.

So it was pretty much a huge negative.

Ooh yes Andy Bichel a great shout. That 34* was huge in the context of a low scoring game. The 7/20 was ****ing weird too. Sure he bowled well, but on another day you'd get 3/40.
The PE deck was ****ing weird in that World Cup.

McGrath batted against NZ in 2003, made 3* (2).

Strike rate of 150 and never dismissed. ATG World Cup batting material right there

He had a great WC actually. Should have been player of the tourney ahead of Chokedulkar
He only came in when Gillespie was injured. Such depth. Much wow.

Was in the batting form of his life, top scored against NZ as well, coming in at 7/64 ish IIRC.

Actually I'm not sure McGrath ever actually batted in any of his 3 World Cup wins. Maybe once?
Maybe if he batted better they would have won in 1996. Just saying.

Bevan 36 (49) and Reiffel 13 (18) - way to make hay.

Like it was test match or something.

0 wickets in that final OOh AAAh no McGrath

There you go again with the 'cricket is about runs and wickets' nonsense. There is a reason why the experts and fans all prefer Asian cricketers over any Australian cricket when given the choice. And it's not just because our food is better.

*****, a bbq'd shrimp tastes better with vindaloo paste or even soy sauce. We all know this. There is no escaping this fact.

This may sound odd, but I think Aravinda de Silva played McGrath best among all the batsmen. Aravinda faced a lot of balls from McGrath in 96 WC.
