Pretty bad loss for Sri Lanka. But we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that they've improved quite a bit since the 3-0 hammering at home against India last year. They beat Pakistan 2-0 in UAE, held India to a 1-0 win at home and beat Bangladesh since then.

Is Dilruwan really the best second spinner SL have got? I know it's not all that long since he ran through Aus and he did pretty well against Pakistan, but it's hard to ignore the fact that he's both 35 and his average is higher than his age despite never having played outside of countries with pitches that will give him at least a bit.

Have to wonder how good WI could actually be if they had a decent Board and all their players available every game and willing to commit to Test/ODI cricket rather than just T20 leagues. They could genuinely be one of the best, possibly even the best, side going around.

Too bad that's probably never going to happen

Impossible to tell how players like Narine, Russell and all the other T20 specialists could have developed as Test players had they had sufficient incentive.

Well how many of the t20 allrounders make the team with Holder and Chase already playing?

Bravo, Brathwaite, Russell, Pollard, Narine, Smith - just how many are able to be squeezed in?

Even their better T20 batsmen like Pollard aren't accomplished enough put them up with the best. Pollard didn't develop as an FC batsmen till fairly late I think and averages 37. Russell would be competing for no. 8, DJ Bravo's a known quantity, he played 40 tests FFS. I see them doing about the same, but not really much better. Ditto for Brathwaite, who along with Russell would not be good enough to bat 7 (though imo Holder isn't either).

Narine would've just gotten reported for throwing more.

Narine could've developed as a proper spinner, I think though he has gradually lost his magic. Just needs more discipline.

So WI basically went from Calypso cricketers no one takes seriously to greatest team ever assembled to Calypso cricketers no one takes seriously.

We are mostly into chutney music than calypso these days.

But we should be more aligned to Soca. We have Soca players. Dancehall and reggae out of Jamaica is boss as well

West indies teams prior to the dominance of the late 70s up to early 90s were no where close to being as diabolical as the wi are now. So teams did take us seriously, prior , they just had their own way (deragotary or not) of expressing so

Yeah, the decline wasn't sudden. They weren't half as bad in the late 90s/2000s.

You mean that period when they were whitewashed by South Africa, Australia, Pakistan and New Zealand and lost to England for the first time in decades?

They still had Lara, Ambrose and Walsh. Sure they weren't as good but they weren't as bad as now.
