Don't think I ever seen such a stupid team as Punjab. Ashwin only bowling three overs and the truly abysmal supposedly all rounder mug that is a proven IPL failure in Stoinis stinking it up with both bat and ball.

I assume as Hodge is in charge he demanded it. He is cut from the same school of nepotism disgusting selections as the equally useless Daniel Vettori.

Harsh on Rahul as he was awesome to be surrounded with cowards and trash though.

Dinosaur like Yuvraj don't have a place in this team; he's there because of past glory, and that he can pull crowds to the stadiums (the kids at cricinfo were hoping that he was gonna hit six sixes again).
Ashwin I thought was a smart guy and is a student of the game; but the games in this IPL that he's leading in, we've seen some questionable decisions in the field...little did he know that he can maximize the potential of his players; making them efficient the same way that Kane Williamson does with his players...Why not try Gayle or Yuvraj as bowlers. Gayle's bowld as recent as the ICC World Cup qualifiers.

That he made Pollard settle was a stupid plan. Pollard was out of form, he coul have brought himself to dismantle the poor Pollard.

Abysmal

Some people are so stupid who already wrote off MI. MI is owned by India's richest man and they are the official kit sponsors of every team so it's not even possible that they would get knocked out before semifinals and would win it next year

Whats odd about Yuvi is even when at his peak, he never really nailed the IPL. The guy has pretty much played for everyone and never justified his massive salary anytime. He in this league in 2018 is absolutely lunacy.

As I said in the previous page, I like Ashwin, but at times I suspect he tries to hard to be quirky. Today it was obvious to everyone he should bowl his four overs, but for reasons unknown he didn't. A cynic might suggest cowardice but I like to think he is better than that. I do hope those who wanted him as captain of India reconsider after this, he'd be a disaster in such a role no matter the format.

Recalling Yuvraj for a crucial game and sending him in at such a crucial time was a pretty terrible move.

Also what is the point of Cutting? Maybe he needs to open the batting like Narine to be of any use.

Not Terrible
It's still weird to me how McClenenenenen just goes under the radar quietly getting pretty decent numbers.

Funny how every year its the same for punjab and preity zinta. I actually feel for preity zinta because clearly she's very enthusiastic about the game let it be ipl only

Its tricky to really know what is going wrong with Punjab. There has always been an Aussie click in the side which I can't imagine is good when things go badly. I do recall a few of them finding slightly banal reasons to leave early when things were going very badly. Ultimately however Hodge should shoulder a lot of blame, its a very average side bar a few guns like Rahul, Tye and to an extent Gayle. It's absurd with the money the lack of depth in this side, Rahul the pressure he must have been placed on himself to finish it as he knew there was few runs in Axar, Yuvi, Tiwary and Aussie Marcus. Not even any of the bowlers could smack it:laugh:

Weird in what way? That he gets decent numbers? Or goes under the radar when getting decent numbers?

He started the season horribly, continuing on from his poor BBL,and missed a few games, and then has had very good numbers this past month.

But teammate Bumrah just completely outshines him.

When Mitch was bowling poorly at the start, MI had both Bumrah and Mustafizur bowling better (and doing the death together).

I find it weird that Mitch is playing ahead of Mustafizur, is Fizz injured? Or is MI going on form?

Fizz not the bowler he was when he was key in Sunrisers winning this a few years ago.Mitch can be erratic, but mostly he has done the business for Mumbai and had a big role when they won it.

I don't know if Fizz is injured; but IIRC, he didn't do much better than what McClenaghan is doing now when he played.
I guess if quotas had not come in the way, both would have been in the playing eleven. Which is a lot more than what can be said for many of the overseas players in this IPL.

On the whole, the Kiwis have done well in this IPL; with Williamson, Boult and McClenaghan featuring in the top ten lists.

I'll forgive you for overlooking CDG at 6th by virtue of being a part-time bowler, but Ish Sodhi is currently placed 2nd on the E/R lists at under 6 runs an over!

That is better than RKhan, and before you say wickets, Sodhi is averaging 22, R Khan 26.

So as all we Kiwi's knew he would be, Sodhi is an IPL success. What were your clubs thinking not signing him in the Auction? Did they miss the WT20 in India?

But the real treat for Kiwi fans is KW's development in India. Boult and Sodhi's success is rather meaningless. CdG bowling some cheap overs is a big step forward after his failures there last tour with Munro having to bail him out all the time. But he is only part time bowling and not bowling full quotas.

I was looking at the number of wickets rather than the economy. Even in T20, I would prefer a bowler who took two wickets for 40 over someone who took no wickets for 25.
It is wickets that arrest the overall scoring late.

No you were looking at total wickets, and not bowling averages :P

Sodhi's average for wickets will make the top 10, just took IPL teams over half the season to sign and play him

IT DOESN'T

https://www.iplt20.com/stats/2018/best-bowling-average

Just look at why wickets mean less:

1 Thampi - dropped
2 and 3 Rana and Pathan - part timers
5 Short - part timer
7 H Pandya - going at near 9
9 Tom Curran dropped
10 Maxwell - says it all

15 Sodhi

What happened to M Ashwin - dropped or injured? Looks like he was dropped for dropping catches?

I'm still taking Sodhi over Rana and Pathan.

This is what the wickets list looks like:

1. Tye 24 (13)
2. Hardik 18 (12)
3. Umesh 17 (12)
4. Bumrah 16 (13)
5. Boult 15 (12)
6. Narine 15 (13)
7. Mujeeb 14 (11)
8, McClenaghan 14 (11)
9. Markande 14 (13)
10. Rashid 12 (13)

None of them would be dropped if they are not injured.
