By the way India - **** Off! SA are the true number ones. You merely beat us. They beat us - got our two best batsmen banned for a year, ****ed up our tv rights, made our best bowler not bowl for fear of lack of swing, etc, etc. You guys are such amateurs.
And got their own best bowler let off too.

Think SA's problem is going to be their middle order batting. Markram looks a real find at the top and with Rabada, Ngidi, maharaj, Olivier and Philander, the bowling looks great.
But Amla looks past his best and possibly Faf also.
De Villiers did well this series but at 34 you wonder how long before father time catches up with him also ?

SA A only drew 1-1 at home with India A last year and no real young batsmen stood out for them in that series. I think that's going to be Gibson's key challenge over the next 12
months (apart from winning the world cup of course :-) ) - finding a couple of good middle order players in tests who can carry the baton forward.
We do have a number of good young batting prospects... maybe not de Villers quality, but we shall have to see within the next year or 2 while they mature.

Im just saying that the bcci needs to be proactive and arrange half of all their games vs sri lanka and bangladesh, then they will proudly be number one forever.

Before the run of friendlies on the sub continent the indians lost 4 test series in a row, which declined their rating dramatically.
Not sure how much I'd use India's losses in NZ, England and Australia back in 2014 as a gauge on their credentials at present. They have a more experienced team now with a better, more proactive leadership.
Let's see how they fare in England and OZ later this year - that will be the true litmus test. Not sure about Australia but I think India will be far more competitive in ENgland than in 2014.
Also think SA's tour to SL is key - SA will need a result (draw or win) their to reinforce their creds.

Come on India! This is bad form. Let a County revel in their win for a bit before you choke the thread with your insecurities at being number 1.

Not sure how, they didnt lose an away test series for nearly ten years in all conditions from 2006-2016. And the cred didnt last long.

Haha it really is pretty pathetic that many Indian fans just jump at the first opportunity to jump into a debate and try to justify why India is still no.1 despite showing virtually zero interest in the series that has just concluded.

India is unironically no.1 and it's a discussion worth having so long as you agree.

The thought that SA can perform overseas better is a meme imo.

Got hammered 3 zip in India in 2015 and beaten convincingly by a fairly moderate England outfit in 2017.
Even the 1-0 series win in NZ last year really would have been 1-1 had it not been for rain.

I'm not sure this SA team is as good as the one that went unbeaten away from 2006-15.
No Smith, no Kallis, Amla and Faf fading, De Villiers also well over 30 now.

That's why I say let's reserve judgement on SA until the SL tour. They played well this home summer but I also think the rub of the green went with them - they won the toss in the first two tests against India which I think was beneficial as it meant their weaker suite, the batting was dealt an easier hand. PLus I think its quite obvious that Australia fell apart due to sandpaper.
