How did this thread degenerate into are India the true no1`s..... I was still enjoying sticking it to the Aussies.

Keep trying. India have lost all their last away series in South Africa, Australia, England and New Zealand. Watch them get towelled again by a weak England and depleted Australia this year.
You keep trying. SA have lost their last away series in India, England and lost home series against England not to mention get humiliated on a designer greentop pitch for revenge at the Wanderers . If SA can defeat this sandpaper-less/Smith-less/Warner-less team at home which they had never done before for god knows how long then anything is possible. Don't be presumptuous. I know you guys wanted revenge for 2015 and are hurting from the greentop designer pitch debacle at the Wanderer's not to mention the ODI/T20 walloping and numerous ICC tourney knockouts at the hands of India so I'll let it slide.

SA, Aus, India and England all failed to win their last series in Bangladesh. #tigers
SA were not saved by the rain. There was hardly any cricket played to be able to draw any conclusions (I think 8 out of 10 days or something were rained out, just a complete waste of a tour). India were definitely denied a win by the rain. England and Australia had no excuses and it was hilarious to watch. :)

SA conceded a 100 run lead in the first match.

Considering SA's performance in Bangladesh when they toured there last time I wouldn't be making such a comment. Lost ODI series and saved by rain in test series.
Well its not like we went to zimbabwe right next door... what about highlighting sri lanka, where we won?

5 out of indias last 11 series was against lanka and bangladesh... its a bit of a joke lol

This is the inevitable meandering path that all threads on all topics on Cricketweb take; till we eventually reach Sydney - 2008, was it? I disremember.
When that el dorado is reached, we don't want to leave: we start going round and round in smaller and smaller circles.
None of the great cricketweb veterans have been very active as yet in this thread, but it would seem that we don't need them anymore to show us the way forward.
And backward.

First hearty congrats Proteas, been a long time coming

Surprised at how similar Cummins and Rabada's stats ended up. Basically one wicket between them. And yet Cummins efforts felt far less impactful.

I guess that's what happens when you're on the losing side but 22@21 in 4 tests is a pretty good effort, especially bowling first change.

Our second highest wicket taker being Lyon with 16@42 says a lot. Hazlewood averaging roughly 40 is woeful. He should have averaged half that on these pitches with his talents. Trying to bowl too fast for his own good.
The Proteas batsmen helped out, Cummins obviously a class act didnt get support from his teams batsmen.

Five centuries to zero tells the story. I know the old saying bowlers wins you test matches - but that has limits if you dont make runs.

It reeminds me a bit of Pakistan just before the Amir, Butt and Asif issues. Awesome bowlers, but their batsmen didnt back them up

Which was 4 years ago and outside the current ICC 4 year period?

What does it matter if 5 of India's last 11 series was against Lanka and Bangladesh. We won them all except one Bang one which was drawn. not like we haven't also defeated Aus, SA (0-3 always remember), Eng, NZ and WI in that time period.

There is a saying in Hindi - XXXXX (SA) jitna bhi bara ho jaya XXXX (Ind) ke neeche hi rehta hai

Does Motorwada have a "someone said something marginally doubtful about India in a thread" google alert or something?

By the way India - **** Off! SA are the true number ones. You merely beat us. They beat us - got our two best batsmen banned for a year, ****ed up our tv rights, made our best bowler not bowl for fear of lack of swing, etc, etc. You guys are such amateurs.

Im just saying that the bcci needs to be proactive and arrange half of all their games vs sri lanka and bangladesh, then they will proudly be number one forever.

Before the run of friendlies on the sub continent the indians lost 4 test series in a row, which declined their rating dramatically.

Only real problem is # 6... some ageing stars but good for another 2 years or so. Somebody always seems to perform, even if we don't always get to our big totals of old. But we have a bowling attack to defend just about anything.
Think SA's problem is going to be their middle order batting. Markram looks a real find at the top and with Rabada, Ngidi, maharaj, Olivier and Philander, the bowling looks great.
But Amla looks past his best and possibly Faf also.
De Villiers did well this series but at 34 you wonder how long before father time catches up with him also ?

SA A only drew 1-1 at home with India A last year and no real young batsmen stood out for them in that series. I think that's going to be Gibson's key challenge over the next 12
months (apart from winning the world cup of course :-) ) - finding a couple of good middle order players in tests who can carry the baton forward.
