Actually kind of interested to see how exposed this bowling attack would become by late tomorrow, coms seem to think there's a something wrong with each front line seamer, leaving Maharaj and the part timers to do a lot of the work, may have been an interesting set-up had the target been more like 470.

SA happy to let this one fizzle out it seems

That Perth one really is an outlier, because usually you expect huge 4th innings targets to look like this, with one side just piling them on for maybe-too-long on the back of a hefty first innings lead. But that Test was almost a one-innings shootout from halfway through the second day.
SA have won both their last matches in Perth with a brilliant runaway top-order partnership in the 3rd innings. Perth is a pretty fast scoring ground and the Aussies couldn't build any sort of pressure once they got going. Even Malan and Bairstow scored quite fast in their partnership there last summer.

Renshaw with the baby-face and Burns looking like Tom Hanks in Castaway makes for an interesting contrast.

Could say the same about 600, then :p

But there is a rule that says you have only have 5 days to play. As things stand even if Australia batted for the rest of the match they'd still probably fall short of the target. If they're still batting in a hour it's counterproductive. As it is I don't think this will hurt them, but if the boot was on the other foot I'd be wanting to declare.
They're on the cusp of winning against Australia at home for the first time since readmission.

Why not stick the boot in and completely smash their bowlers all over the place while setting an utterly insane target that Australia know they'll never chase?

Wasn't really "smashing" though. More a remorseless grind.

Re: Chadd Sayers, that 2nd innings performance felt like a verification of all the negative things Warne had said about him in the 1st innings.

A lasting memory for me on Morne Morkel's career will be his ability against left-handers. One of the very best in his era(s).

I've only watched him in this game but Chadd was really, really bad. Like, random Indian/SL medium pacer thrown into an away series to cover for injury bad.

Fully agree with Warne about the attacking fields. I mean, what even is the point of batting so long if you aren't putting a couple of extra guys in catching positions. Better to get them all out for 270 in 50 overs than 220 in 60 from the bowlers' workload point of view as well..

Lol, Khawaja is saying "I was playing a shot." That's like an open admission saying "I am the worst player of spin among all the specialist batsmen who have ever played First-Class Cricket."
