***Official*** England in New Zealand 2018

Serious brain fade by Root. He was looking so set for a biggie and then got over confident and threw it away.

At least his fifty to hundred ratio hasn’t worsened.

Pretty impressive effort from Southee so far today. Back during his 2012-15 peak he used to shift the momentum of games like this all the time, you kinda expected it. He's been doing fine in tests for the past couple seasons, but it's always felt like he's been picking on weaker batting lineups or piling on top of openings created by Boult and Wagner. About time he had a major impact on a game like this.

England's top three have to shoulder the blame for the fragility surely. Root, Stokes and Bairstow are class but they can't be expected to salvage 30/3 every time, and they don't.

With the exception of Root and Stokes (perhaps Bairstow) this is a pretty mediocre batting lineup. Better than the Windies but not as good as Pakistan, Bangladesh and RSA who toured last summer.

Bangladesh got 600 at the Basin. Pakistan had Azhar Ali, Younis Khan and Babar Azam
Babar Azam averages 24 in Test cricket and so is hardly a selling point, and Younis has retired.

You could have made a decent argument for the Pakistan batting lineup before the retirements of Younis and Misbah being superior to this lineup, but as it stands it's basically like this lineup without Joe Root.

Does anyone know why the Alternative Commentary stream is just playing meatloaf rather than having actual commentary? Is it not on? how do I get to it?

Superb from NZ this session. How poor does England's lower order suddenly look with Ali & Woakes absence? I mean Stuart Broad is due in next.

Basically everything on this partnership now for England.
