Good session, pretty even and a great over rate for once.

England have done well to be only 2 down after being inserted with the likelihood the pitch will flatten out.. That said they've hardly got away on the scorecard, going at less than 2.5 an over.

Still feels like the wrong decision and a very defensive one to bowl first with a 1-0 series lead, from a number of perspectives.

Overall, a pretty good session for England, Root looking comfortable and Stoneman finding a way to muddle through. NZ gonna have to bowl well after lunch.

In the last decade. In NZ. 'New' grounds elevated to international status.

We've had brand new grounds; Saxon Oval and Cobham Oval.
And redeveloped club fields; Hagley Oval, University Oval, Mt Maunganui.

All of them good cricket ovals and a far cry from what he used to have in Lancaster Park and Carisbrook with their concrete terraces and crush barriers.

There's a pretty strong chance of Western Springs joining this list in future too.
