David Warner retirement thread

And it's goodnight to David Warner's international career - or at least that's my strong hope.

Imagine how he's viewed a) by his captain who is now out for 12 months based on a plan Davey Dum Dum hatched (yes Smith should've poopooed it but his vice captain for ****s sake put him in a horrible position) b) his team mates who have been dragged through the mud and completely ****ed their chances of winning the series c) the hierachy at CA at whom Warner and co barked at for more money, only to pull this stunt d) the general public, who surely have had enough of this guy's ****.

What a great day for cricket if we never have to put up with this dolt again.

Ohh come on. If Smith cannot say no to his VC's evil plans then he deserves what he got. I agree that Warner is an ass but we the viewing public surely lose out if he never plays for Australia again.

Nah on the last part. They miss out on some decent knocks but also ****wit behaviour and poor example of how to play the game for anyone who watches (note I didn't say role model).

And the first part yeah you aren't far wrong. I have no idea why he didn't immediately knock it back, he has the power and the influence to do it with no issue. Bancroft different story.

Does make me wonder if he's sort of intimidated by Warner or something. The way he seemed to go out of his way to not name him and spread the blame too.

Smith always came across as a weak and feckless leader so I'm not surprised he didn't stand up to Warner (presuming he wanted to in this case). In many ways Warner came across as the spiritual leader of the team (certainly more in tune with Lehmann's mindset), as was shown how he took a much more overt role in the pay dispute than Smith.

Yeah that's a head scratcher for sure. My only thought is in terms of not naming him, that they think Warner knows stuff from the past and being the loose cannon he is, pinning it on him might've opened a can of worms. But as to why he didn't just say 'No David, dumb idea as usual' at the time is beyond me. Stuck in that siege mentality and couldn't see the nonsense of the idea over the desire to stick it back on all the detractors, in the midst of a pretty hopeless situation in that 3rd Test

Or that after so many incidents, Smith thinks there's no chance of controlling Warner. I mean, Warner's managed to come out the other side of a lot of incidents, maybe Smith just was over dealing with him.

Read an article.

Smith apologised to the bowlers. They forgave him.

Warner went to his room and said he will apologise and say what needed to be said in the morning. Changed his mind and didn't in the morning.

Honestly while i still think it's harsh I'm getting less and less fussed about Warner missing out for this long. I've never liked him even a little bit and it's clear that he's a toxic influence who answers to no-one but himself. The only thing is he's a good bat when on and not having one of our main drawcards for the whole summer isn't going to do wonders.

It is amazing how he resistant his behaviour is to generating sympathy, at a time when I think the public mood is starting to turn a bit.

Well a man we consistently acts like a belligerent prick... shockingly turns out to be a belligerent prick.

I'm spitballing with admittedly very little evidence here but it honestly feels like he still thinks he's a bit of a victim here. Maybe not in this particular case, but there's the underlying whataboutism about everything that's gone on this tour.

He is about as close to a classic bully as you get, likes to give it and becomes victim when he receives it, acting the innocent. No sense of responsibility for his own actions.

Yeah, like all those unpleasant stories surrounding Warner's behaviour on this tour, his general white-hot rage at the way he felt he was treated by the SA crowds + players, and then the stuff in the last few days... well, it doesn't paint a picture, but it proves a palette.

Smith allegedly told them something like "don't be ridiculous" and walked off

They did it anyway

I think it's fair for the captain to assume whatever plan the vice captain has come up with and will take onto the field is, you know, not sand paper

equally it's fair that the captain is fully responsible

So is Warner the only who didn't give a press conference? Seen Steve and barncroft's.

Is the bull a coward?
