Surely some heads have to roll here. Can Steve Smith really continue to be the captain of Australia? Serious question.

The worst part is he states that the 'team' leadership knew but not the coach.... that is clearly a lie, looking at the footage.
Yeah Lehmann is on record saying they'd do whatever is needed to get it to reverse. This was after the Durban game.

Handscomb was sent out there by Lehmann as well. Very difficult to believe he had no idea.

These guys are the biggest hypocrites of them all. Whining about crowd sledging when the Aussie crowds are the worst, Warner whining about de Kock crossing "the line", having a go at Stuart Broad for not walking after edging the ball etc....but this surely takes the cake.

This is the most blatant cheating since 2010 when Asif and Aamir were caught. Sadly they got 5 year and life bans just for bowling a couple of no-balls....not sure why that's a lot worse than this.

Well, that is the ultimate physical manifestation of 'crossing the line'

i mean if lehmann has hung *steve smith* of all people out to dry then he should lose his job. but that's for CA to investigate.

yes trying to get reverse swing is definitely as bad as spot fixing

You kind of didn't mention that what Asif and Amir did was a literal criminal offence.

Sure. But that's quite irrelevant. They were banned for much longer than the criminal sentence...and it was for bringing cricket into disrepute. Anyway, let's not get sidetracked here on what's worse. It's like rape or murder.

I mean, Steve Smith is going to have to live with being called a cheater for the rest of his life.

yeah man all those people who were turned off the game because someone scratched the ball. michael holding famously cried on tv because someone used tape to rough up a ball.

seriously.
Steve Smith's crabby technique probably turns a lot of people away from the game, but that's not a yardstick to judge a cricketer on.

He's cheated here. And instructed the team to cheat. Not sure when that last happened on a cricket field.

I suppose it's good that they have admitted to it (not that they had any choice given the Videos).

Smith and Bancroft should be banned for a match, rest of the team and staff should take a 100% match fees penalty.

seriously are you being dense? do you not understand why spot and match fixing, which undermines the very idea that sport is a contest and both teams are at least attempting to win the game as well as brings the risk of contaminating sport with organised crime, is qualitatively worse than ball tampering?

Put the verbal gloves away.

Using illegal means to win a test match that you're losing is qualitatively worse on cricketing terms, if not equal, in my books to making money from a no ball. Move on now, and let's not talk about the comparison. This is the last I'm going to say on the comparison vs spot fixing but this is piss poor.
