Australian Domestic Season 2017/18

Was watching a bit of Chris Tremain's spell this morning, it almost looks to me like he is trying to bowl too quickly with that slingy action he has, and somewhat losing his wrist position. When Tremain is in good rhythm, he is a dangerous proposition to face with his pace and late outswing, as evidenced by the amount of wickets he has taken this season. But he can have the tendency to go missing for a spell, something he would want to work on in order to keep his name in thinking for higher honours.

So this would be the first off-field concussion sub?

I don't disagree with it, but it opens up another point of discussion.
Christian for Pucovski the other week, plus a couple of other times come to mind. Is that what you meant?

Nah he means this is the first time someone has been concussion-subbed for something that happened outside the actual game. Renshaw got concussed in warmup.

How good would it be if you could get subbed out mid-game because you had concussion-like symptoms because of a massive hangover?

Oh, okay, that's definitely new. CA's Head Trauma policy has it covered it seems.

This Policy applies to: (i) all male, female and pathway players and (ii) all umpires (collectively
referred to as Participants):

participating in any CA sanctioned competitions and matches or training for such competitions or matches or training for international cricket competitions or matches (collectively, Elite Cricket); and
Interesting that there's no regulations on subs, re: subbing like for like players. Fair enough though, player health is paramount.

You actually could. You could contravene your own club's professional standards during a match, go out on the town, get Ben Stokes'd in the street while pissed off your mind and qualify just fine for a sub.

I know in NZ they have to actually nominate who the sub will be should someone get concussed, before the game (I'm assuming they can bring in whoever they like in the unlikely event of two concussions). I'm not sure if that's the case here or not.

Marnus Labuschagne looked in really good touch today, going at a SR of 70ish without taking a great deal of risk. Looked calm and well organised but still able to put away loose deliveries, the thick outside edge to bring up his century was probably his worst shot all innings.

Prepare a pitch which deteriorates massively, sub in a second spinner imo

More seriously, isn't this the second time Renshaw has had concussion issues already in his career? A bit concerning given his age

The teamsheets that get posted from the toss on twitter just denote the 12th as an emergency fielder (toilet breaks, restrapping, the usual), not sure if there's crossover or it's just assumed the 12th acts as sub. The policy doesn't state the need to nominate a sub prior to a match.

Even better if you win the toss; you can just buy the worst fielder of your specialist batsmen shots after Day 3 stumps until you think he'll qualify the next morning.

We were talking about this just the other week in this thread when Christian came in for Pucovski but didn't bowl. There is definitely potential to take advantage of the system.

Let's say star batsman/bowler strains a calf during warm up on Day 3, instead of being without a player how about we just pretend he was hit in the head and concussed so we can sub someone in . . .

Concussion Substitute/s will be managed
on a case by case basis in accordance with Appendix C.
Got to be the match referee and opposing captain who are convinced. But interestingly,

Following the notification at C.2.1, if the Concussed Player’s team
wishes to activate the Concussion Substitute, it must have its
captain (or coach where the captain cannot practically do so):

nominate a like-player to the opposing team captain (or
coach if the opposing team captain is on the field of play)
for approval (which must not be unreasonably withheld)
as the Concussion Substitute for that Concussed Player
for the remainder of the match concerned

That probably explains why Christian didn't bowl. If I was told I had to bring in a "like-player" for a specialist batsman and passed Christian off as that, I wouldn't bowl him either.
