What's happened to Steve Smith why isn't he scoring runs anymore
Obviously he's expecting to face bowlers, not left-arm filth merchants. When he does face these filth merchants he can't decide to hit them for 4 or 6 and plays an indecisive shot that has been getting him out.

He needs to realise that hitting them for 6 is the best course of action.

It is pretty wild that, of all the bowling Smith could hit a rough patch against, it's left arm spin in a series like this

**** left arm spin. Left arm spin bowlers have disproportionately more success than the quality of their bowling demands. Being able to bowl around the wicket as a finger spinner for 75% of the time against right handers is such an unfair advantage to have. It's like how left handed batsmen are constantly fed deliveries in their pad or angling away from them to cut. Life's too easy.

I would love it if sides started trotting out finger spinners as bad as Doherty against us to counter Smith, like when we trotted out Doherty to counter KP.

I did enjoy Mike Haysman's comment in thopse highlights that "these runs count". Incisive.

Cheers for the link. great knock indeed.

SOK really troubled him though, and he can't even get a game these days. Sad on both counts.
yeah but that was on Indian wickets that were pretty much spinning big time from the early overs, and which pretty much all batsmen struggled so you can't compare

There are levels of "struggle" though. Everyone struggled, some people found a way regardless and most made at least some useful contributions at times.

I feel like SA are going to struggle to dismiss the lower order here. Anything over 150 and the Aussies would be in with a real chance IMO. Paine, Cummins, and Starc can all bat.
