***Official*** Australia in South Africa 2018

I think from 80 +
Yeah would love that. Got to get Vern & AB through first half hour tomorrow hopefully.

Hundreds in SA seem a rare occurrence at the moment so be nice for AB just to tick that off especially after being stranded first innings of first test.

South Africa on top obviously with the lead and anything above 50 is a bonus, but I reckon they let Australia back into this game, especially with that post lunch session and the real low run rate in that session.

They were 155 for 2 then lost 4 quick ones before de ****, Vernon and ab put on some decent partnerships. They missed a chance to big chance to get around a 120-140 lead I reckon, I mean they still might get it but it’s less likely now

This game I reckon SA have about 60% chance of winning and Aus 40% if quick wickets fall tommorow morning and the leads under 50 then Australia right in this

I think the criticism of Elgar and Amla is a tad unfair. They wore that attack ragged increasing the opportunity for counterattack.

Disagree. Only 1.65 is way too slow. Only time you should be batting that slow is when you are trying to save the game

Where exactly were they supposed to have scored that they didn’t? The early bowling was pretty damn good and they weren’t just dead batting balls back down the deck. Their early work set the platform for DeVilliers to do his 360 thing late in the day, that the others failed shows how tough it was to score.

They allowed lyon especially to bowl at them, weren't proactive at all. They certainly should have been able to rotate the strike better then they did.
Elgar especially failed to put away a few full tosses and hal volleys.

Not asking for them to go at a crazy rate but surely 2 xp test players should be able to manage 2.5?

It was extremely tough to score. The bowlers deserve as much credit than as the batsmen deserve flak.

The tumble if wickets after they went out isn't a result of it being tough to score though- it's due to that partnership playing out the easiest overs and having new batsmen walk out into some vicious reverse.

A 50 is a 50, and I will take both innings happily, but if you are good enough to survive for 200 balls, you should be able to make some runs. Elgar scored something like 30 from his last 150 balls in the best batting conditions of the match. It's possible south Africa would have been better off if he'd gone out earlier in the day to capitalise.

Both aren't in the best touch. Seniors were asked to step up and contribute and they made Australia work hard. We have a lead in testing conditions. I will take it.

Facing one one of the best attacks in the world, bowlers fresh, ball still relatively new = the easiest overs. TIL.

What is there to support that though? They’re vastly experienced Test players, exactly, one of them up there with the best of his era and known for scoring tough runs. Yet even they couldn’t manage to score quickly. Maybe there were, y’know, other factors at play.

Great day at the cricket... to much sun, to much beer and some great friends. Was sitting directly in front of the Aussie contingent who were great sports, and enjoyed to chat...

Loved every second of Elgar's and Amla`s horrid innings... even the Aussie supporters were getting frustrated, never mind the Aussie players. But very typical PE pitch, felt a touch slow, up and down, not easy to score not easy to get wickets. Very slow out field, many shots you thought were going for 4 ended up short. And then ABdV came in and it was great.... pity about a few to many wickets.

Now I`m going to bed...

Sould have been phrased as easiest conditions, but you should also have been able to infer this given the fact that I started the post by giving credit to the bowling. Ball pretty much stopped swinging conventionally by the time the partnership started and only started reversing at the end of the partnership. Pitch the flattest RSA will see all game, and will have the least turn.

Am I missing something? You behave like an absolute animal (Warner) and get 15% of your wage docked (barely a pittance). You budge somebody in the shoulder and you miss entire tests!!

I'd say you're missing that he was already in trouble for prior indiscretions, but it's a bit of a surprise that Warner wasn't in the same situation.

Demerit point system. Warner got three, rabada probably will too (if he's unable to claim it was accidental), but he already has 5, and will get a ban based on total points.

Warners incident was worse in my book, but Rabada should probably catch a ban here and Warner shouldn't.

Give the choice, I'd probably ban Warner on general principle, and the umpires over the way they handled these incidents and pretty much everything else this match, but I don't think this is exactly following the ICC rulebook.

Looks like a cracking game in prospect. SA somehow need to find a way of getting that lead to 80+.
