The main problem is that he hasn't converted, really. Scored some great 70s and 80s without putting together the sort of score which turns an okay total into a dominating one.Makes it look so easy, wac.
I feel like he's the best batsman in the world in low scoring situations, just always finds a way to score runs and counter attack. The problem is that of late he seems to play the same innings in the relatively easier conditions as well.
Yeah feels like not many have been his fault really, it is certainly not a Root like situation. The idea he is overrated in Tests seems to have been quite common on here in recent years (although that could just be Furball over and over again) but this sort of innings makes a nonsense of that really. The main problem is that he hasn't converted, really. Mind you, that's not necessarily always been his fault.
I mean, it's not hard to see why people here might say he's "overrated" when thinking in the context of people like the cricinfo commentator who just said he's a no-brainer pick for an ATG XI in any format. The difference between being an exceptional batsman, which is obviously true, and "literally one of the best five or six of all time", which is indefensible.Yeah feels like not many have been his fault really, it is certainly not a Root like situation. People seem to overreact to anyone who is not a clear-cut ATG being highly rated, even if nobody is actually rating them up with the ATGs.Yeah feels like not many have been his fault really, it is certainly not a Root like situation. True enough. Suppose that happens a lot with modern players and their reputation on here but seems particularly true of De Villiers.I mean, it's not hard to see why people here might say he's "overrated" when thinking in the context of people like the cricinfo commentator who just said he's a no-brainer pick for an ATG XI in any format.
