***Official*** South African Domestic Season 2017/18

Dendarii

International Debutant
Not sure on his full back ground.

But he schooled at English-speaking Springs Boys which falls under Easterns.
He does sound South African when he speaks (although I don't actually know what a Zambian accent sounds like), so I reckon he did the bulk of his schooling here.

Current Top 20 plus others in top 40 career franchise 4-day batting averages (min 10 innings). "Current" defined loosely as e.g. Morkel only play one-days, Ontong retired mid-this-season, and Rossouw not playing for Knights actively (but then neither was van Zyl, til he was.)

His parents may have been SAn but could have been in exile during apartheid, and the came back when things changed.

I know Monde Zondeki, Steve Tshwete's nephew, spent a lot of time in Zambia because of this.

That's good for Dala to get some experience. His pace makes it baffling how much of a 1-day specialist he's been though. In 18 SS matches, he has taken 22 wickets @ 70. Surely with that pace he should at least rip through tails? Maybe he can develop that side, but on the other hand, having some one-day focused speedsters can take pressure off the likes of Ngidi and Rabada.

Our reporters aren't the greatest ito of getting all the facts: https://www.thesouthafrican.com/who-is-junior-dala-south-african-cricketer/

There are quite a lot of refugees/migrants from up north in SA. Cricinfo says Kofi Apia-Adu (also Easterns/Titans) is born in SA, but with that name he must be of Ghanaian or similar heritage. I think a couple of our African players have opted to play for Uganda too (and not the most legitimately either...)

Nonsense man. Here's the Ugandan squad from last year's WCL, none of those names sound Saffa.

Current Top 20 franchise 4-day bowlers, minimum 15 wickets. Plus notables 20-40. Travis Muller is an anomaly as he hasn't played first team in ages - looks to have jumped ship to NZ this season actually, so may need to be removed. Mothoa I guess is an anomaly too as I've seen him bowl, and how? How can be anything but cannon fodder except on something really sticky from New Zealand.

Cherry-picking: Only left arm quick in top 20 - Beuran; only others in top 40 are Parnell and Rowan Richards, neither of whom I added as notables...

Spinners have a spread of disciplines: Tahir shouldn't be in the running for a test return at his age, Shamsi left-arm wrist is the 2nd statistically, but his lack of penetration so far in international cricket, and our confusion with what to DO with a left-arm wrist spinner seems to limit his opportunities. Incumbent Maharaj is next and is left-arm orthodox. Then Dolphins rival Muthusamy also lefty. Best Righties are Harmer and Piedt, only Piedt is in for selection. Out of top 40 with career average of 34,1 is von Berg, who is IN FORM, and therefore seems to be next cab off the ranks - despite form being averaging worse than his career average... I guess it's WEIGHT of wickets?

Since re-admission would I be right in saying he is the 6th player to play for SA not born in SA for all 3 formats ?

That's what I come up with as well. There could possibly have been some random births in other countries, but the ones I know of apart from Dala are Tahir (Pakistan), Harris, Elworthy, Benkenstein (all Zimbabwe), and Bodi (India).

Yup, those are the 6 I came up with to.

Good trivia question for some random time. :D

There is one other who could count as a sneaky option if the question is worded in the appropriate way. John Traicos was born in Egypt and played in South Africa's final series before isolation, and did play test cricket after South Africa was readmitted, but for Zimbabwe.

Yup. Unlikely his 22 year gap between tests will ever be broken !

Cobras slip cordon in practice this morning at Newlands.

Verreynne (wk)
van Zyl
Puttick
Piedt
Hamza

Wonder if Putters is going to retire at the end of the season. Great career and I think they will be targeting the 4-day Sunfoil Series trophy for the perfect send off.

Zubay Hamza changed from Slazenger to DP

No one even uses Slazenger these days ? Kallis and Pollock used them basically for their whole careers.

Slazenger becoming like County, Stuart Surridge, Duncan Ferneley dying a slow death.

Outside GM, Kookaburra and Gray-Nicolls not many of the original cricket bat makes thriving.

Got your Puma, New Balance, Spartan, IXU, DP, BAS these days.
