South Africa team selection

For now, keep him where he is. He hasn't given me the idea that he can knock it around and build a potential 100 scoring innings yet. So will keep him 7/8 and make sure he knows he needs to work on his bowling. Actually use his strength and good action he has to add a few more kph to it.

Right now I honestly don't think there are better than Morris and Phehlukwayo around the domestic scene for limited overs cricket. 50 or 20.

Phehlukwayo has also got the ability to bowl at the back end better than most... tends to bowl wicket to wicket, some good change ups and can hit the block hole... but he definitely needs to just increase his speed a bit.

Especially if he wants to make the test squad on merit.

Different for limited overs. I'm all for accuracy and change-ups and wicket-to-wicket but just getting quicker also doesn't mean he has to use it as his stock ball for ODI cricket. He can use it as a change-up to bowl quicker. Like your bumper and your odd back-of-a-length ball.

My comment was purely about LO, he should not be anywhere near the test team at the moment. He is not good enough in either disciplines to be add enough as a test player.

Am I missing something? All that noise about exploring option before the next world cup, but I've seen nothing about any A tours in the off-season... England's Lions tours have definitely given handsome rewards...

There is the annual triangular with Australia and India normally in July, August ?

This year they in India I think ?

Wonder how strong a side the SA Inv vs Australia will be. 7th round of Sunfoil Series this week and then there is a 2 week break so all players not involved in SA T20 squad will be available.

Klaasen, Jonker, Dala named in South Africa's T20I squad - ESPNcricinfo

South Africa A squad for tour match against Australia: Khaya Zondo (capt), Theunis de Bruyn, Zubayr Hamza, Beuran Hendricks, Pieter Malan, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Duanne Olivier, Rudi Second, Malusi Siboto, Shaun von Berg.

Hamza is the biggest surprise, though I know he is highly regarded...
Jonker and Dala both a bit surprising for me, but overall not a bad squad.

Wonder who the last Zambian-born person is to have played international cricket? Neal Radford?

Henry Olonga ?

Edmonds & Radford were around the same time for England. Think you right on Radford playing the most recently of the two.

Oh yes, Olonga, and just checked, Radford's last Test was in 1988, while Edmond's was in '87.

Was reading the other day how Richie Benaud's Australians played in Northern Rhodesia before a tour here once. Think the English did too.

There were 1 or 2 other players who played in the Currie Cup that were born in Zambia too.

Nowadays you don't really hear much bar Junior being born there :D

Was imran emotionally ready after Saturday's incident?
Good question. I wonder if that played a role.

I was reading Sport24 preview yesterday saying they hoped to see Shamsi over Tahir.

Wonder if Tahir's record vs India also comes into consideration.

Klaasen was impressive. Looks to have the game for the middle overs which is encouraging. Really don't want to see Duminy anymore, but he isn't going anywhere is he?

Right now 7 batsman look like :

Amla
QdK
Faf
AB
3 of Duminy, Miller, Markram, Klaasen
Do you think we will play 7?

First choices would be Markram and Klaasen. But then I would want to play Markram at 3 and drop everybody else down one with Klassens at 6. I think we need to accept we can't play ABdV at 4 if we want a decent finisher at 5. I still don't know why we don't have a flexible batting line up? If we get to 25 overs when we lose our 2nd wicket ABdV come in. If we are 2 down at 15 overs then Faf comes in?

Amla, Faf and Markrams job is to keep the batting solid; ABdV, QDK, and Klaasens is to score quickly and be attacking regardless of batting position.

I realise that pointing out ridiculous comments in her articles is like shooting fish in a barrel, but anyway...

Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Lungi Ngidi and Chris Morris are four of your front-liners in the longer format
Morris one of the front-liners? Surely at best he's sixth choice behind the other three, Steyn and Philander (maybe even seventh with Olivier in the mix). If he does play tests it's either going to be as a result of injuries or because he's the best batsman of the lot.

Was talking about 7 batsmen in a 15-man squad ?

Suppose there could be 8 but if 7 then go :

2 spinners
2 all-rounders
4 quicks
