Didn't everyone have a terrible CPL? I recall Guppy having a bad one too
Not really, McCullum averaged 55 @ a SR of 165 and Munro averaged 36 @ 135... meanwhile Kane averaged 17 @ 89

Guppy didn't have a great series at all, but If my memory serves he left early due to the death of his father.

Just checked the stats and yeah it looks like it was a slightly lower scoring tournament but plenty of blokes did alright. Kane/Guppy/Babar Azam/Shadab Khan all sub 100SR (or near enough) though. I didn't actually watch any games, but it seems like all the accumulators suffered

I watched all of the games kiwis were involved in having myskyed them from the early hours of the morning, and KW's efforts really did start getting embarrassing for everyone concerned, even the commentators who'd of course been talking him up as being so classy at the start of the season were starting to get a bit awkward when he just couldn't hit the ball off the square and ended up being promoted down the order and being used as a specialist fielder. I will say his fielding was very good, if that's any consolation :p

I read earlier in the thread that Stanlake is seen as T20 only player and he's only ever played 2 shield games, so will never be in the frame for tests.

Why? Is it him preferring the mercenary life, Shane Bond-esque injury record or is he just not good enough yet to maintain the pace and swing beyond 4 overs?

Unlike Kane Richardson he looked in good control of the moving ball and unlike other gangly freaks we've seen bandied about like that Pakistani bloke from the World Cup he was hitting good areas and bowling to his plans consistently.

Mostly it's been because of injuries. Maybe that will change, I don't know. Look at how people were talking about Cummins 18 months ago.

They may want to save him until he gets a bit older and he's less likely to get stress fractures.

Horrible scheduling by the way. Next game not until Wednesday and NZ having another T20 game until next Tuesday. **** me.

The schedule looks like it's been drawn up with the sole purpose of minimising the cost of flights between Australia and NZ.

tho more likely it's because the NZ and Aus legs have different TV rights ownership, but it's more fun to pretend the above is true

Yeah I found that weird when I looked. This game Wednesday night would want to be an absolute epic to get any sort of interest in the tournament. Can't see how it'll become anything but a poor foot note in history unless it conjures up some thrillers (ie how the CH Series got off the ground so well)

Remember the old B&H series, when there was a game almost every day for two months. Sure, the Aussies deliberately ran the touring sides into the ground, but we were never without cricket to watch.

Yeah I'm glad someone brought this up, what is this horses**t?

Utterly meaningless, all of this. Life, cricket, it's all, it doesn't matter.

Morgan wants more time between games. lol

I actually don't mind the series. It's better than the oneoff T20 game after the tests and odis which does nothing for fans or players. Least this comp gives the teams time to think on their tactics for T20 World tournament, and gives practice at T20 in tournaments- assuming they use it as such.

It's obvious failing is the geographical distance between the games which means long waits between games which is bad for the fans.

Cricket: Decision time looms for Black Caps selectors - NZ Herald

The squad for the start of the home games in the tri-series is expected to be named on Thursday.

Six players have been freed to play in tomorrow's penultimate round of the Ford Trophy - legspinner Ish Sodhi (Northern Districts), wicketkeeper Tom Blundell (Wellington), batsman Tom Bruce, seamer Seth Rance and left-armer Ben Wheeler (Central Districts) and Otago's Anaru Kitchen.

It's Waitangi Day. There should be a game of cricket on atm.
It seems like the ideal time of year for a three test series. Would provide plenty of cricket every day ... instead we get 4 20-20s over the space of a month.

Another problem with abandoning tests, I spose ... there's barely any cricket.

Kane Williamson and Mike Hesson need axing in T20 cricket revolution - Simon Doull - NZ Herald

Not often I agree with Doull, but I think he’s on the money here. Apart from Guptill as captain, he’s been struggling as much as the rest, recently.

Despite our number two ranking, we’ve lost three match series to Pakistan at home, India away, a one off to South Africa at home ... and beaten Bangladesh and West Indies at home in the last year. We have far from a flash record in this format ...

Doull adopts a fairly drastic point of view, but if it pushes the selectors to go half way in that direction it will be a good thing for the T20 side (and some of that may spill over to benefit the ODI side in time too).

Doull said Australia had just one test player in their T20 side while the Black Caps had seven. Williamson, Ross Taylor and Tim Southee were among the players who should be dropped, with the likes of Anton Devcich, Mark Chapman and Tim Seifert promoted. The only regular test players who should survive, in Doull's opinion, were Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult.

Doull told the Radio Sport Breakfast: "I don't think we are getting the selections right — I've had some concerns for a while.

"I would like to see Colin de Grandhomme batting higher but it is the selections, not the batting order (which is the problem). We want dynamic players and should be giving them an opportunity at T20 level.

"If Kane Williamson doesn't open in T20 he shouldn't be playing. His record opening is very good, at three and four it's not that great. But he shouldn't be in the T20 side, there's a lot shouldn't be in the T20 side."

Yeah here's Doull. Devcich, Munro, Guptill, Chapman, CdG, Young and Seifert is his drastic top 7 makeover.
