That "do you believe you're the best side in the world" question is such a lame question anyways. Do you expect professional athletes at the highest level of the game to walk around going "Well, we're not really that great, we're probably 3rd or 4th best on a good day". Of course not. They back themselves to the end, if they didn't they wouldn't be playing at that level. The moment you think you aren't good enough to be at that level, you no longer become good enough at that level. Self belief is incredibly important. And even if they didn't genuinely feel it, they aren't going to show that weakness in public. Especially not the captain.

It's such a bullshit question. How can you be a professional paid cricket journalist and still ask such bullshit questions. That reporter deserved to be spoken rudely to. You have 4 ****ing days to formulate questions that that's the one you come up with? Get another job.

He answered by saying he thought if England wanted to be thought the best side then they ought to beat Australia in Australia, like we had to against the West Indies a decade earlier.

There are ways to deal with questions from the media. If you don’t want them to ask difficult questions then just issue a press release and don’t go to the presser. Or don’t be captain. It’s part of the job.

What a pile of **** about nothing. The problem is sending a losing captain in to have to answer dickhead questions - Captains should have the right to veto press conferences. I watched the interview and thought Kohli answered everything fine considering he would be in a bad mood to start with. He responded about SA not winning in India on the back of a wanker proposition about what is he going to do on the back of this series loss. Context. If you ask a dumb arse question that needs no answer or only has a cliche answer then expect a cliche answer or one that shows you are a dumb arse. Well done Kohli.

India are not idiots. In house they know their chances are slim, but if he dared say that, he'd be crucified by effigee. Even though it is true their batting has left a lot to be desired India have still played well enough to make for interesting games that have let their fans dream the dream until halfway through the last innings.

I like Kohli's big FU to everything not part of his team. (but I reserve the right to hate him tomorrow if I so choose)

Yep. Kudos to those who can patiently endure this kind of crap, but let's not denigrate those who can't. We only see one pathetic question, but Kohli is probably answering this same stupid question 20 times a day, off camera.

It’s a perfectly reasonable question for a journo to ask the skipper of a side in Kohli’s position. If he takes it as a personal sleight its his problem. The bloke is too thin skinned to last as an international skipper if that bothers him.

It comes with being the captain of a cricket team. The reply is just petulant & childish in my opinion. You got to be better than that and stay calm as the face of the team especially considering the tantrum he through on the test field only a day before.

I guess a lot of teams have to get asked hard questions and not just Kohli. It sounds nice that we all tried our best but what are they actually going to do to improve. That goes for England, Australia , South Africa and India.

Sadly, very likely yes. So many hangers oners get their little moments of contact. But more likely travelling between the ground and the hotel and whenever he is out eating dinner. Every single reporter tries to get their piece of a sportsman nowadays and most other people want their moment of fame with a phone and pip in to ask questions too. Then he has to speak to all the tv crews in various breaks. Having only ever watched channel nine I thought players only did one interview. This year I have discovered that they speak with BT, then with Channel 9, then the radio this one and radio that one and all of those don't have time to flesh out real questions so you get very similar questions for 30 second sound bites. Well... Kohli bites.

It was not snarky, it was petulant... he came across as a little boy who has not had things go his way and is now whining, stamping his foot... he is not taking any responsibility, or being honest in what India need to do to improve.

There wasn't much wrong with his answer though. He essentially said he believes they are and winners need to have that kind of mindset. I think most successful sportsmen who want to be the best in the world have a similar mindset and the examples of this are strewn across history.

The team composition question was a perfectly valid one, and Kohli didn't even understand the question.

Journalist's point was the pitch for 2nd test was subcontinent-like (to which Kohli agreed), and the journalist wanted to know why India didn't field the best playing XI for such conditions - which they do at home.
Kohli somehow got infuriated by the question and said something like: What is the best XI? Tell me what is the best XI and we'll play that XI in the next match!

It's obviously possible to not understand a question; but please don't be rude if you didn't understand the question.
