***Official*** India in South Africa 2017/18

Kohli needs to be sacked as captain. Rahane should be cap and Dravid should be brought in as coach asap. We will continue to lose away from home otherwise and it would be a shame looking at how our fast bowlers are shaping up.

Fiery press conference from Virat Kohli today. Counter-questioned me about "what is India's best XI" and later asked a South African journalist about "how many times SA have come close to winning in India". #SAvInd

oh dear.

I thought Pujara was India's best bet in this series, and if not the best, clearly the 2nd...but in reality his graph overseas is getting very dismal...3540 runs in 37 tests in the sub-continent (average 65.55) with 13 centuries and 13 half centuries and 905 in 19 tests outside sub-continent (average 27.42), 1 century and 3 half century in 33 innings! it's looking really bad at this point of time at least
it might actually be worthwhile for India to explore different teams for home and away given the general difference in performance. Well, this isn't only for india, perhaps other teams can try it too but i think India will probably get the most out of such a situation. They can actually do much better abroad with just a little bit of change compared to some of the other outfits going around

People being a bit harsh on Maharaj, hardly had a chance to bowl to left handers.
Possibly... but he had a golden chance to show what he is capable of and ended up bowling into the rough on the leg side of the right hander. Very defensive non-attacking play. How much that was a captain coaching decision? But very old SA spinner tactic which I would hope we moved on from.

starting from that 4-0 thrashing in England in 2011, India now have lost 17 test matches outside sub-continent in last 7 years and won only 1 (if you leave aside their 2-0 victory in Windies in 2016). Winning havoc at home and against Sri Lanka is enough for you to make it to the number one in the ratings huh!!!

This set of batsmen is capable IMO. But they're batting as if they're still back home and everything is straightforward and comfortable, when they should be going into each innings with the mindset that every run will be really ****ing hard and will have to be fought for.

Yes, but i think that batsmen like dhawan will have a hard time abroad and its not like india doesn't have good options. Also there is now a huge question mark on chepu's record abroad as well. It is something they should look into imo

SA batting lineup apart from AB looks very vulnerable.. Not very confident about them facing Australian bowlers tbh..

Late 2019

I'm praying our seniors give it a crack.

They could all end up in poo but it would be lovely to add an away win in India to the belt for them.
Ravi Shastri will be on the phone right now to arrange that water supply will be cut off at the venues SA will be playing at

The current team has faced the Australian bowling attack, bar Cummins

If I was Indian supported I'd still be furious at the lack of any credible preparation for this series. Admittedly teams that are put out these days to play against the touring team are of questionable quality, but for an Indian team playing in conditions nothing like what they're used to (although this last Test had some comparisons) for them to have a realistic hope of winning the series, and not just trying to be as competitive as possible, they needed to in SA earlier than they were and with a couple of tour games lined up to build some familiarity with conditions. They may well still have found themselves 2-0 down at this point, but you have to give yourself the best opportunity.

I know schedules these days allow little time for a couple of weeks in a country before the Tests start, but this is still an essential part of succeeding in away series.

Another thumping victory for SA. It's shaping up a bit like the Ashes ,where one side manages to have moments and there's talk a match may be saved...and then the home side batters them in the championship rounds.

And I agree with the post above, this SA batting line up is very fragile, as I said pre-series. Problem is, India are even more fragile.
