this series really has been the pits for player commentary hasn't it? lyon and warners embarrassingly ill advised barbs at the start of the series. stoneman saying australia are no better than england despite being 3-0 down. anderson prattling on about australias weakness in depth when it comes to their pace attack (beats having a weakness in depth in the first xi jimmy m8).

so many dickheads on both sides.

Thread's been quiet for a reason (or a few reasons).

Bollocks. Look the Barmy Army will and do pick their targets......if your not up to it, then perhaps test cricket is not foir you.

Ive heard many a tail from some old guard who tried to give some **** to G Mcgrath......they soon learnt and accept it was not a good plan. 2010/11 they messed up Johnson, the bloke came back strong and had the last laugh in 13/14........all the respect in the world from us.
Bullshit! It is just dumb shitfaced behaviour. They did not have any effect on McGrath whatsoever. He took wickets because that is what he did. They did not mess with Johnson. He was wayward, because he was wayward and the following year, he got it together. Football is for the primal thugs but test cricket should have some decorum amongst the crowd. It is just dickish behaviour. If you were here and partook in it, then sad for you. All this does is paint English fans as a pack of wankers rather than the wonderful atmosphere the Barmy Army used to be known for (and for the larger parts, still are).

It doesn't matter whether you respect them. It matters HOW you respect them.

England's comments were not so much malicious as comically miscued. You'd have thought it was England who were the ones 3-0 up listening to Messrs Anderson and Rocky.

that is being very very kind to both men.

moronic, stupid, dim witted all more suited. i wonder if such an out of touch with reality mindset runs throughout the whole team.

Some of the statements coming from Bayliss/Farbrace were remarkably complacent/confident also, given the circumstances.

That's kind of what interests me. I get what Adders is saying, and I'm definitely not saying it makes The Barmy Army awful humans or anything like that. I'm just really curious where the mindset comes from.

I remember a few of us thought he should never play for Aus again after saying that. Lucky they don't listen to us hey
Im sure there were a dozen posters atleast against his inclusion

I certainly was against Johnson's recall for 2013/14 but boy was I glad to be wrong about that one (yet another one I'm tasting it about GIMH).

As for the T20 specialist, his speech patterns and shtick are very much like a different poster on this forum. I'm not ready to call them a multi but they certainly moove me to question whether a ban is in order.

you would have thought the t20 specialist would be joining us in the BBL thread but alas

a.) not a troll (IMO). If someone confirms it was a multi, fair enough
b.) chasing out new fans because they don't use the correct language is not particularly welcoming behaviour, so no, it is perfectly logical
You either love test cricket or you are a terrorist to me

I will just add that Cook's innings was marvelous. Fantastic knock to one of England's greatest ever batsmen (what is it about England producing great openers?).

He's now scored more Ashes runs in Australia since 1990 than anyone else, which is a mighty feat.

Guess the false belief that Cook is one of the best travelling batsmen in Australia would continue to grow now when he was pretty meh for the most part.

Happy for the bloke though he seems genuinely nice

This is one of Dobell's better recent articles with some good points in there; there were definitely sour grapes from Oz journos (and the cricket side) on their failed recent England tours; certainly Lehmann was moaning about the pitches in 2015 being too seamer-friendly and the story about the English side urinating on the pitch in 2013 seemed timed to undercut from England winning that series.

And - notwithstanding I visit it pretty regularly - the foxsports.com.au website is pretty dire; an ugly mix of sport from a corporate perspective and tediously sensationalist headlines.

But Dobell still seems to have a real chip on his shoulder about Australian cricketing culture; I reckon deep down he's jealous of how mainstream and popular the sport is. English cricketing culture and media can be jingoistic and sensationalist as well, but because the sport is nowhere near as popular in England as it is in Oz the suffocating media presence that touring teams feel in Oz is nowhere near as significant.

As for the public banter and verbals that's been engaged in this series, sure it can be tedious at times but for professional sport in 2017 you sometimes need hype and nonsense and provocation to stay in the social media/mainstream media eye and the verbals have helped ensure that's the case.

I'm sorry, is George "I don't see any problem with Ben Stokes decking someone" Dobell complaining about media being biased again
