i still don't know why they didn't use it as a chance to give a bruce, phillips etc some experience. broom will be 36 odd by the world cup

Why did Miller come in to bowl before Gabriel - specially when 2 good players of spin are on the crease?

Holder is such a bad tactical captain - lost the review early too

Had a feeling we may drop this game today, and we're in a good position to currently.

Broom was so obviously an utter waste of time this series. I hated the selection, because it seems to be based on loyalty when he's quite clearly declined even from 18 months ago & we have plenty of good young players to blood. This saying nothing about the fact KW should have been rested for the T20s if anything, & not the ODIs. His ODI batting's significantly more valuable to NZ than his T20 exploits, and we can do without him in the 20 over bash.

Without Sir Colin de, our batting really lacks big hitters in the middle dunnit.

Surely the reason to schedule two hundred limited overs internationals over the summer is to try some new promising players (of which there are quite a few around), especially against teams like WI who tbh aren't very good at ODIs. Instead we're picking players like Broom and Kitchen.

That's lovely for a guy like Kitchen, who's performed well domestically for many years and had probably thought NZ honours had passed him by... but at the same time can anyone see him playing a big part in our next T20 World Cup or ODI World Cup? NZ selection shouldn't feel like a reward for Long Service to Domestic Cricket.

Does Miller have any variation? At the moment he's looking to bowl only SLA; I haven't spotted an arm ball yet.

He's really good at varying his pace, and gets some natural variation (ie. some just don't turn and kind of look like arm balls until you see the release on replay), but he doesn't really have a different ball he bowls with a different release.

Yeah, completely agree. Again, Anaru is a good bloke and I'm happy for him. But he averaged 17 in last year's T20 comp, from memory Otago might've used him lower down? He's scored no runs in his two innings this year, and apart from a couple of decent scores really hasn't set the world alight all domestic summer either. Chapman slaps 125 not in a LA game v decent opposition, averaged high 20s last year in T20 with a higher strike rate, pounded Wellington again this week and bowls left-armers that are more used than Anaru's.

I cannot see the justification, apart from as you say as a long service award which is really the opposite to what us fans want to see - young guys with promise promoted and developed, hopefully ala Glenn Phillips.

Yeah this was his chance to kind of cement a spot as a backup for Williamson and Taylor, and maybe make the World Cup squad as a result if they decided to carry a specialist backup for that role. He's blown it entirely now -- the next time Williamson or Taylor are out they'll just pick Worker in the middle order or move Latham up. I highly doubt he'll be playing for New Zealand again.
I’d bet my life this isn’t the last time we see Neil Broom

Would have agreed with you a week ago, but not so sure now. Not because of Broom's lack of runs, but because of Worker's runs, think he may now be used as a #3 / #4 backup.

Is a shame that Will Young hasn't forced his way into the #3 / #4 backup spot, but not enough runs for NZ A and not enough centuries for CD.
