Get Raval in the ODI squad tbh
I was surprised he couldn't make the Auckland Super Smash side ... seem to remember him playing very well for them in that format last season.

Surely he'd be an improvement on Cachopa, at least ...

Bat as high as 6??! That ODI average of 10 is pretty compelling obviously.. Getting really over Hesson's sh*t with trying to manufacture all rounders. The dude is a number 9. So is Astle.

If Nicholl's bats at 6, I'm going to lose it. And by the looks of it, he will. Starting to miss Anderson, he's the sort of aggressive player you need down the order to balance it out.

Is Kuggs injured?

Bracewell's batting definitely seems to have improved over the last couple of seasons. His ODI average of 10 consists of just eight innings, half of which came back in 2011 and 2012, so it's not really what we should be judging him by. I think #6 would probably be too high as well unless Kane was talking about a "fourth wicket falls with three overs to go" situation, but I don't think it's silly that he's been picked as an allrounder.

I may be drunk but bare with me.

Gavin Larsen’s all over this. The guy himself was a containing bowler and his whole personality reeks of “Oh, yeah, nah, gotta give everyone a fair go. No radical personalities in the dressing room. Good honest toilers punching above their weight. Don’t wanna rock the boat. Happy to be punching above our weight, etc.”

The sooner we get rid of the 90s mediocrity generation the better.

Probably some truth in this. Larsen a very conservative selector who is extremely reluctant to introduce anyone new or different.

In the spirit of lenient and easygoing NZ domestic batting form, Bracewell would like you to lay on a few waist-high ones and dropped catches, like Nidamanuru is giving him there. He'd prefer none of that cunning change-up stuff Curran is trying.

He'll hook you for six and pride himself on being the anti-Santner, if you go the Ferguson route and try to intimidate. His dad didn't write nasty emails about Ian Butler's cowardice, or call the park on Doug's childhood street 'Get Hard Park', for nothing.

Bracewell was scoring plenty of runs down the order for CD while he was playing test cricket, but he still ended up averaging 13 after nearly 30 tests. I know it's a different format, but even thinking about putting him in there at 6 is ridiculous. He's shown nothing at international level that suggests he belongs there.

I don’t understand the need for an all rounder when you have Colin Munro and George Worker opening the batting. Chalk this selection down to another place in the team for “One of the boys”

Oh, and he’s also a three time convicted drunk driver who was just done in May and still refused to take responsibility for his actions.

Unsubtle NZ domestic batting achievers can sometimes start to take their rough-hewn talent to the world in their late 20s though. I'm sure L/esson see an equally bright future in Dougeh, seeing that as with CdG, he had good cricket shots instilled into him as a child.

Others didn't even have that.... ;p

Is anyone on here excited to see Astle in the team? He seems to be an absolute people’s champion in stuff and facebook comments. Could run for PM and get elected with these levels of popularity.

I just don’t see it, every time I’ve watched him, he’s been average and inconsistent (awaits egg on face 6 or 7 wicket haul today).

Todd Astle is one of my favourite players, so yeah I'm excited for that reason. Hard to say I'm excited because I think he's going to dominate and cement a place in the side though -- if he's going to make it as an international cricketer in any format (which is doubtful to begin with), I don't think it's going to be this one.

Yeah those part-timers plus Williamson should give us the luxury of picking the best pure finisher we think we have to bat at 7 - could debut Chapman or Seifert. Can't think that bracewell fits the bill, and I don't expect much from his odi bowling either (has worked a couple of times on very slow pitches, but should be real cannon fodder on anything quicker).

Surprised that he's started to do well in domestic one dayers and t20s, must have improved the control a bit, I think.

And yeah, he's definitely the beloved of every stuff comments section. Personally, it would be fun to see him get a few more test matches. Not necessarily 'good', but definitely fun.
