Todd Astle is one of my favourite players, so yeah I'm excited for that reason. Hard to say I'm excited because I think he's going to dominate and cement a place in the side though -- if he's going to make it as an international cricketer in any format (which is doubtful to begin with), I don't think it's going to be this one.

Yeah I think the ODI aspect of it plays into my apathy.

Of course I hope he plays great and justifies the selection, though.

Yeah those part-timers plus Williamson should give us the luxury of picking the best pure finisher we think we have to bat at 7 - could debut Chapman or Seifert. Can't think that bracewell fits the bill, and I don't expect much from his odi bowling either (has worked a couple of times on very slow pitches, but should be real cannon fodder on anything quicker).

There's so much that could go wrong with the frontline attack selected though - Southee has been consistently terrible in ODIs for ages, Ferguson is inexperienced and can definitely go for plenty on a bad day and Astle is Astle. I wouldn't want to add not really having a fifth bowler to all that. I don't necessarily think Bracewell is the right call, but picking a bowling allrounder was, IMO.
