50 wickets in 2017 says he is. Leading wicket taker for us here with 12@25 which is more than respectable given the way the rest have gone yet he needs dropping in your eyes.Jimmy isnt fine. Yeah he had a good home summer but we ALL know he can swing the ball in friendly conditions. His away performances just have not been good enough. He was mediocre in SA and I'm probably being generous, abysmal in India and only did really well against the Windies. His current Aus performance are inflated by one good game, at the end of the series, I'm not sure if we'll be looking back at it fondly.
I think the last time he had a good series in tough conditions away was against Pak but that too he was consistent rather than blowing teams away.
I hate to be this down on him as I'm a big fan and think he is the best bowler England has ever had but it is about time the selectors think of him and Broad as automatic selections. They are not. Especially Broad.
How is this inconsistent at all with the point being made in that post, harsh as it is?50 wickets in 2017 says he is. Leading wicket taker for us here with 12@25 which is more than respectable given the way the rest have gone yet he needs dropping in your eyes.
If you look back it is one of a number of posts by him saying Anderson and Broad should be dropped, I am just saying no way is Anderson a problem and he will help regain the ashes for us in 2019 before retiring. The fact is Anderson has his wickets in 2017 at under 17 which is better than any other player in the world this year, hardly a reason to drop the guy is it?How is this inconsistent at all with the point being made in that post, harsh as it is?
Yes, none of that negates what I just said. He has not been a good tourist, he has shown he can bowl very well in swing conditions. Plus, add to that he is getting on, pace is right down and he can't do anything when the ball wears on. Look, this series has been good for him, his best in Australia but is that enough? Is he going to be at his best next time they tour Aus? The answer is no. Plus the wickets he just picked up came against a team who looked lackadaisical having already batted England out of the game.50 wickets in 2017 says he is. Depends on fitness and police but I would sayJimmy Anderson is the least of our problems, he really is.
What is England's (Test) bowling line-up in New Zealand?
On this, an hourly forecast for tomorrow:Supposed to be raining according to weather reporters up until around 12pm, may finish before then though.
Looking to the future is one thing but when we have nobody fit who is decent to replace him why get rid?Yes, none of that negates what I just said. As I always say, look beyond the numbers and find real world context, or better still, watch the game
Oh and I did not simply advocate having him dropped, I said there needs to be a dropping of broad and possibly Anderson but more so, there needs to be a grooming of young quicks who should play. These two names should no longer be automatic selections.
It is a sensible policy to build a test side for the future.
Could be anywhere from about 40 to a whole day. Rain will stop reasonably early so it’s a matter of how early and how quick the groundstaff are in getting the ground ready on time.Managed to have a rum induced lie in. Predictable score to wake up to. How many overs are likely tomorrow?
An optimist?SL ground out a draw (albeit on a complete flat wicket) recently, I would like to see some fight and application from the English batsmen tomorrow. They will probably go down some time after lunch though.
They're saying first session will be rained out.An optimist?
Imagine we survive this and then Stokes is available for Melbourne, the hype would be ridiculous. What a depressingly predictable score to wake up to. We don't deserve to get out of this. I hope the rain stays away to save us from the 'positives going into a must win at the MCG' bullshit.
Faster but inaccurate. Injured atm I believe.Isn’t there another Overton who’s meant to be all right?
England will probably still manufacture a way to lose even if the monsoon arrives. They're saying first session will be rained out.
