***Official*** 3rd Test at the WACA

Anyone suggesting Bancroft keep or anything like that needs to stop. That's the sort of half ass selections that got England in trouble in the 90s.

If we dont have an all-rounder capable of playing in the top six, we dont play one. Simple. If there's no all-rounder, the best policy is to pick your best six bats and your best four bowlers, plus your keeper at 7.

Surprisingly, when we stick with this, we generally win in Australia. Like in the first two tests!

International Regular
Australia's bowling attack is so good this series, last time England succumbed to Johnson's thunderbolts and this time they're not dealing with hostile fast bowling but facing a very complete bowling attack.

Why do I get the feeling you'd be moaning if they showed up all smiles?
You have a point I have to say.

I wonder what music they enjoy listening to on those garbage cans they all seem to wear? Bit of Davy Jones perhaps, 'Ashes to Ashes' or Radiohead's 'How To Disappear Completely' or maybe 'Fade to Black' by Metallica?

You think that the Australian team has any say over the pitch? Or that they've shown any inclination to prepare pitches in their favour recently?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. We've been wishing for a hard, bouncy WACA wicket every summer for years. It's often promised, but rarely eventuates, and I doubt we're deliberately negating what would be an advantage as far as home conditions go.

Mitch Marsh isn't capable of batting in the test top 6. But hel be thrown back in there anyway

Especially when one of those four is Lyon. He's doing what Swann did for us early in the decade. Absolutely no need to mess with the batting for bowling reasons.

None of these guys are better than Gillespie, yet
Nah I don't rate Dizzy all that highly. Was good for a very short time but wasn't exceptional. Lee made him look great though by being the single most overrated test bowler in living memory.

I 100% agree with this. But if the selectors are keen to play M Marsh then I think giving Bancroft the gloves is the only way it can work.

You never saw him bowl did you?

2005 onwards doesn't count

Dizzys dodgy double will go down as one of the greatest night watchmen innings in history. He still talks about the fatigue you get in the 150s and the nervous 190s. Last test he played too.

Cant remember his bowling really.

I laughed, but other knocks have came against better bowling attacks in more important matches

Tudor's 99* is a good un. Was literally just randomly playing like a top order bat for a day. Dizzy never really took the bowlers by the scruff of their neck even when hitting runs

A bloke called Tony Mann scored 105 as nightwatchman playing for a Packer depleted Australian team against India. Set us up to chase down 340 and win that game in Perth.

I like to think of the current fasties as the new Gillespie X 3 (still waiting on patto) in that after a horrible early period of injuries they finally get over it and stay on the park till the end of their careers.
