***Official*** 3rd Test at the WACA

Marsh's bowling is legitimate 3rd seamer quality. Maxwell's is not.

To discount Marsh's bowling because part timers are a thing is like discounting Moeen Ali's bowling because Joe Root can bowl.
Fair point. I was never considering him being 3rd seamer as I was not factoring in the injury bet. As I explained above, I don't agree with this thinking either. So for me, Marsh is acting as 4th seamer, and he will bowl so few overs I don't think it is worth it. I was over the top with my derision of Marsh, but only because of history.

Mitchell ****ing Marsh.

Seriously?

I knew we'd end up back there, but did it really have to be so soon? The **** is not a batsman. End of. Would be a handy no. 8. Maybe after a good long stint @ 4 for WA to prove he can do it. But one ton does not make him a better player than the failure he has been.

If we really think we need a 4th seamer then bat Cummins at 6 and play Bird who is averaging 20 this season. Far more likely to produce a positive result for us than recycling the same old garbage again and again.

Giving us a chance or just taking the piss by beating us anyway with a never was in the side?
Sorry mate, but your lot are real poor. Your seamers are fine in helpful conditions, but pace makes a big difference here.

You don't have a spinner that will threaten here.

You have one batsman in the top 6.

If it was in England we'd be in massive strife, but in Perth we could select Melissa Marsh to give all of Swampy's kids a baggy green and we'll still win easily. (and she'd probably go no worse than Mitch)

Particularly now it's been proven that Bird Can Bat

The main problem for me is Marsh is nowhere near getting picked for his bowling (at the very minimum he's behind Bird and Sayers) which realistically only leaves the number 6 spot free and Mitch Marsh is not a good enough batsman to bat at 6, particularly followed by Paine at 7.

The only way I can ser him fitting in the team is to bring him in for Paine and give Bancroft the gloves.

But if the risk of injury is so high we need a genuine 5th bowler then drop Paine, give Bancroft the gloves, promote Cummins to 7 and bring in Bird. We'll get more from the ball with Bird and won't lose a whole lot with the bat compared to doing the same but with Marsh.

But I fully back this bowling attack to take 20 wickets on any deck. It's our batting that needs strengthening and that's why Maxwell should have been brought in over Handscomb.

I just don't trust Marsh batting above #7 and Paine isn't a keeper who I trust batting higher than 7.

And all of this when Marsh is only just back from shoulder surgery might be a bit too soon anyway.

I guess that the difference is that I don't yet, not in any conditions. I never really trust 4 man attacks on flat decks unless you have ATG bowlers (plural).

They look miserable as hell, granted you wouldn't know if Anderson was miserable as that is his general expression at the best of times.
Not sure how you come to the conclusion they're miserable as hell ? I know I don't walk round smiling to myself but I like to think I'm still a happy chap!

Most of the time Mitch bowls, he gets 0 wickets.
Ok i should clarify this that when i said take wickets i meant it to be in games played in Aus and generally out side the sub continent. Mitch Marsh has played 14 tests outside the sub continent and has taken 27 wickets at 31.59 while striking it at 52.4. If those aren't good figures for your fifth bowler, i don't know what are

I would definitely pick Maxwell as the all rounder for games if they are played in the sub. As a whole though i'm bemused as of why people keep failing to grasp something so simple that in Australia you need your all rounder to bowl seam up. Part time off spinner will have no impact what so ever given most front line spinners not named Lyon usually averages 70 in Aus and i have seen plenty of Mitch Marsh's bowling and fair to say i rate it. He is accurate bowls a heavy bowl and get it to wobble bit. A genuine partnership breaker and not to mention that he can crank it up to 140s.

If you are confident with a 4 man attack then fine go pick Maxwell but if you want to sustain this attack and want to see likes of Starc and Cummins continue to perform in international cricket consistently i'd suggest you pick a seam bowling all rounder.

Will be interesting to see how our version of Mitch Marsh (Pandya) goes in SA.

Mitchell Marsh. Why? He's even less of a no 6 than Mitchell Santner.

They just rolled in the 2nd innings for not much and they want a guy at 6 who averages 21. Maxwell or Cartright would be better
