***Official*** South African Domestic Season 2017/18

Marius

International Debutant
Off to Willowmoore Park (aka the Home of Cricket) tonight to watch the Titans vs Warriors.

Weather was terrible earlier but it looks like its clearing and could be a nice evening.

:D

Lekker man. Enjoy.

The last 2 Titans games have been washed out. They've been trying to Elgar & Morris on the park. At least AB should be there too. No QdK & Markram though ?

SA u19s v England u19s in a D/N game in Potch. 1 change Fraser Jones in for Hermann Rolfes. Still no Miltz, Niemand, Ntini which is a little surprising to me.

Hopefully Gerald will keep bowling blitz and breaking stumps.

SA Inv XI to play Zim includes non-international players. They probably won't be making their franchise 50 over team. As mentioned SA players Bavuma, de Villiers, Morris & Steyn are playing.

Dominic Hendricks (c) (Lions)
Ricardo Vasconcelos (Boland)
Isaac Dikgale (North West)
Zubayr Hamza (Cobras)
Leus du Plooy (Knights)
Kagiso Rapulana (North West)

Kelly Smuts (Eastern Province)

Shaun von Berg (Titans)

Lizaad Williams (Cobras)
Tladi Bokako (Warriors)
Michael Cohen (Western Province)

“These matches also provide opportunities to explore our talent development pipeline. We were very pleased with the way a similar squad performed against Bangladesh when they managed to lead on the first innings with Michael Cohen, Shaun von Berg and Zubayr Hamza being among those who excelled and they will all get another opportunity.”

Good news to see Dupavillon bowled 3 overs in a club game on the weekend.

The more I see Olivier the more I think there will hopefully be better younger potential like Ngidi , Dupavillon and more come through.

It is harsh considering his results in his first 4 tests and his mammoth 11 over spell in the last test but there is so much lacking and its highlighted again when I've seen him bowl in the Ram Slam now.

Olivier feels like an excellent franchise but not quite SA standard speedster (which is pretty high standard nowadays!). Feels like Marchant and Viljoen also filled that same sort of role, really good but not good enough. Hopefully Ngidi , Dupavillon prove to have that x-factor replacing our current stalwarts in 2/3 years time. Also like to mention Mulder who could really balance a future SA attack.

Fast-bowling is such an interesting subject. You get those freaks who have the x-factor just straight up and then you get those work-horses who work so hard to knock the door down like a Kyle Abbott did recently. I think adaptability and versatility are found by the best. I think that is where I see an Olivier struggling.

That is where we've been lucky with our bowling stocks. Those special bowlers always seem to come at the right time. Hopefully this will be the case like you say.

Good to see SA u19 beat England in the final but disappointed to lose the two round robin games.

Think the batting needs more work as the bowling is quite young. Think there is less excuses for the bowling which is quite young. That is why Jason Nieman scoring 60* to take the SA u19s over the line in the final was very pleasing as it was a new contribution.

How good is he's batting. Good enough for 8 long-term?

Been disappointing in an SA u19 shirt.

Bats well at school level. Saw some footage of him in that schools Zimbabwe tournament and he certainly knows what he is doing with the bat so hopefully he will get his SA u19 record right on that front.

Always good to know the fast-bowling stocks are coming through.

Tiaan van Vuuren (16) will be attending u19 Coke Week and is another Grey PE pupil.

Also an article on KZN Inland and their impressive record of producing fast-bowlers like Savage, Dupavillon, Zuma (all Maritzburg College), Lungi Ngidi, Tom Curran & Eathan Bosch (all Hilton) and the new 3 on the block in current SA u19 selections Fraser Jones (Michaelhouse) and Mondli Khumalo (Maritzburg College) and potentially Zimbabwean-born future SA selection Michael Booth (Hilton).

Probably not readable the attachment from an article.

Michael Booth is phenomenal and a future Protea. Booth has changed the way teams approach Hilton. He is a wicket-taker and if managed well will go far. Quick, fiery, moves the ball away from the right-handers. KZN is producing a wonderful array of fast bowlers.

Northwood director of cricket and first XI Coach Divan van Wyk and former Dolphins opening batsman "Michael Booth - what a prospect. If he stays teachable and coachable he is going to go places."
Michaelhouse first XI coach , Dean Forword on Fraser Jones : Grew up in Johannesburg but started in Grade 8 at MHS , a gifted sportsman who's excelled on the rugby field as a loose-forward for the first XV but more so on the cricket field as an explosive fast-bowler and accomplished middle-order batsman. Fraser is quick and accurate. But his major strength is his consistency of pace over all his spells through out a day. He is a strong young lad who likes to run in and hit the deck hard
and his last spell is as intense as his first. Since representing SA u19 side vs the Windies , his cricket awareness has grown exponentially and his skill set has widened. Fraser wants to learn and is a good listener.
Maritzburg First XI Coach and Master in charge of cricket David Pryke, who as a former Dolphins paceman knows a thing or 2 about fast-bowling, said to me about the Maritzburg College Grade 10 boy , Mondli Khumalo, a lad from Umlazi Township in south-east Durban who was awarded the Jacques Kallis Bursary to the Red, Black and White.

Mondli Khumalo, is a clever cricketer who has a natural understanding of the game. He is a fantastic athlete with great hand-eye co-ordination and ball skills. He is the complete cricketer in that , although bowling is his predominant skill , he is a very capable batsman and a fantastic agile fielder with great hands. His strength as a bowler is keeping it simple in hitting the deck with extremely high percentages and having a very good slower ball.

As a Cobras supporter it is really good to see the depth Boland are building. When you have 2 of the best universities then that is also a plus. Boland ave Vasconcelos (St Stithians/Gauteng), David Bedingham (Wynberg/WP), Kyle Simmonds (Westville/KZN C), Brandon Glover (St Stihians/Gauteng) all going to Maties. Really pleased to see Glover back in the mix. He has pace and is tall. If selections weren't an issue and we just let the best rise to the top I would be more confident but we should never lack the talent in this country.
