This is looking a bit like the suez crisis for us.

Time to withdraw the troops and use corporate interests as a main tool of success. Cricket ability has forsaken us.

There were other tests during that time period.
Yes I’m aware of that. The idea that all Australia produces are roads is a myth, just as it’s a myth to say all English decks are raging green tops/ seamers.

The only place where the cliche is true is the SC, where they basically prepare dustbowls so spinners can open the bowling like it’s 1870 again as they can’t produce quicks owing to vegetarianism.

The way it's going... i think the Aus 5th bowling option will bowl less than 20 overs in the entire series.

Nah, stating something is a myth doesn't mean it's a myth. The whole 14/15 India series, the Pakistan series last year, 2/3 NZ tests in 15/16 and a couple more elsewhere were on roads. I would put Hobart last year as the only properly bowling friendly pitch over that period.

Come on lads. We're over using the short stuff here. Lets attack the ****ing stumps a bit shall we eh?

I wouldn’t be touching the follow-on.

Seamers have already bowled nearly 15 overs each, plenty of time left in the match, no all-rounder in the side, quicks prone to injury.,.

Would be madness, IMO. Bat out a few sessions and declare.

Stop disagreeing with me with your wrong opinions.

Being number 1 right now in world cricket means that the scheduling has fallen in your favour and you're a decent side.

South Africa and Australia keep beating each other away. Pakistan haven't been able to play at home for some time. Sri Lanka isn't very good right now (beating Aus 3-0 flattered them greatly). England are like India but haven't played New Zealand (who are to them what Sri Lanka are to India conditions-wise).

India/England get flogged in SA/Aus. SA/Aus get flogged in the subcontinent. India and Aus win a test in England. Everybody spanks the West Indies. Pakistan are Pakistan and can beat everybody (except Aus away) and lose to everybody. New Zealand don't pay enough tests.

I really don't see a huge difference between Australia, South Africa and India right now. The main difference is that India have weaker opposition in familiar conditions.
This are all opinions not based on facts and made to create false equivalences. We are considering the past 4 year circle I am assuming.

Sri Lanka isn't very good right now (beating Aus 3-0 flattered them greatly) - Also beat Pakistan in UAE where no one has beat them in a long long time.

England are like India but haven't played New Zealand (who are to them what Sri Lanka are to India conditions-wise). - No they aren't. England are clearly extremely inferior to India in home conditions. India have lost a single home match in the last 4 years, England have lost at least one every series (including to WI of all teams). England played NZ at home in 2015 and drew 1-1. We are playing SL now at home and are going to win the series. England lost to SL in 2014 and drew against Pak in 2016. Which team has even drawn against India in the past 4 years let alone a non-SC team.

India/England get flogged in SA/Aus - England won their last series in SA

Everybody spanks the West Indies - England haven't won a series there in more than a decade.

If India has 'weaker opposition in familiar conditions' so too have Aus/SA - What is the Ashes right now for example or SA hosting SL/Bangladesh? India has a better home record than everyone in the past 4 years, has a better away record than everyone in the past 4 years. And the 4 year period like you said covers home/away cycles so all 'weaker oppositions','familiar conditions' gets evened out.

Yes we look pretty fragile with the bat, I’d get us straight back in and pepper those weaknesses. Aussies batting again just takes time out of this game for us to try and somehow hang out for the draw.
Woodster. Respect your views.

What can England do moving forward with their batting and bowling ?

Batting is a bit tricky. Which youngsters do you back ? Its not like you haven't tried that. It may be a case of going Foakes as keeper. Stoneman has to be persevered with until Jennings/Hameed/Gubbins smash the door down but then I suppose we don't know what is in Cook's mind right now either.

The bowling obviously needs variation. I know TRJ did well against us but is he a solution or just a stop-gap when fit again ? Because in Australia and Asia you wouldn't need too many of his type. Is it not maybe better to go with COverton so when Anderson/Broad leave he can take over.

Yeah the pitches for the India series were super flat. Probably the flattest I've seen in this country.

Hobart has been bowler friendly for some time. The SCG is somewhat spin friendly but not as much as it used to be. The WACA has alternated between road and bouncy road, which is pretty much how it's played for its entire existence. The MCG is a road. The Gabba is a road which hasn't even had its slight green tinge for many a year.

Played on a more seamer friendly deck than any seen in Australia for years literally a couple of weeks ago

In any case, can we stop this discussing all this meaningless rubbish in the match thread? Mods to step in please.
