I can't really remember anytime in recent years where it felt like the point was to get HHH over. Has felt like he's been giving back for a long while now. At least since I've started rewatching which was fairly late 2015 (so I missed the Sting match and the promos leading to that).
Reigns vs. HHH was good (except the WM match which was average) Ambrose vs. HHH was great and Rollins vs. HHH was good.
He's definitely still over with the WWE crowd, he's doing great stuff in NXT as a booker, the dude has plenty of angles let in him.
The era of HHH as The Game is over, we're now onto the era of HHH as COO.

Reigns saying he's had more matches in 2 years than Cena's had in his whole career was so weird. They've got to find some better material for the dude. That was weak, not mention total BS.

Haha tbf I think he said more "good" matches.
But yeah it's still obviously total nonsense.
Edit: Tbf though, this angle (plus the Strowman vs Brock stuff) has made me more interested in RAW than I have been for quite some time. I can take or leave almost all the rest of the show (until Asuka shows up anyway), but these are two feuds which really mean something.
Also I'm enjoying Jason Jordan's matches as well. Even if the storyline is incredibly dumb. I still laugh when I think of Kurt's "If this gets out it could ruin me...I'm going to have to go public with it" line.

Yeah was a typo, good matches is what I meant... dunno, this feud feels like it's just continuing the "Oh look we're totally shooting here" thing just because the first segment worked well. Still perfectly good, since it's the first time in a while I'm actually kind of intrigued by a storyline, but they need Reigns to just get pissed soon and start kicking Cena's ass instead of trying to take him on on the mic.
