Dunno if anyone else is catching the highlights on 5, but Geoff Boycott is a ****ing moron.
Had to listen to TMS today and he is incredibly tiresome - the things he was going to say to Jonny Bairstow when he next saw him a particular lowlight

I'd love to blame this on SA missing out on various different players throughout the series but at the end of the day it's the batting that's letting them down massively, and all of the injured/banned were or are bowlers.

For all the praise de Kock got he's only made two good 50s. Amla was instrumental in the win but has otherwise been poor and so has Faf. If they were to win the series, these guys were the guys who were supposed to be scoring the runs. Rabada and Vern have shown more spine with the bat.

Yeah SA batting has gone down the drain unfortunately, is Riley russow a big miss? I thought he was starting to progress well

To be fair as he had never played a test, dunno if he would have made much of a difference here.

Its a remarkable difference from 2012, Alviro was a player that for many was an underwhelming selection and always seemed to be under pressure for selection and was nowhere near the level of some of the guns in that side, but alviro of 2012 would probably be the best bat in this line up.

I don't think we should totally panic regarding South Africa's batting as they have won some nice series recently, most notably in Australia, but they are concerns. The likes of Faf and Amla not really delivering and its been a so-so series for QDK. I also thought De Bruyn looked horrible Yesterday and less said the better about Kuhn this series.

Whatever it takes!!!
It was always their bowling which had to carry their batting. Think it was mentioned even before the series. And once Philander had injury concerns and you already had no Steyn, then it was England favorites easily for me. The only question was if the English batting itself did not hold up and fortunately for them, their batting, or more to the point, their middle and lower order, have held up.

Just woke up and saw the scare. Must have been a cloudy afternoon I suppose.
Nope, Jimmy just bowled particularly well.

Currently on 484 isn't he? It's not hard to see him reaching 500 against the current WI side next month.

As far as batting goes for SA, the only obvious missing player is ABdV. Faf has had a really poor series, Amla has looked good at stages but gets himself out now and is obviously on the decline. Elgar has done alright, Bavuma has shown the most fight. QDK needs to stay at 6/7, we are trying to push him up the order, to soon to cover for our other batting deficiencies. de Bruyn is a good batsmen and has potential. SA have been missing a quality all-rounder for a few years now. SA have a number of pretty good youngsters at domestic level but they are all a year or two away from being ready, we are currently missing a middle generation. But I knew all of this going into this series.

The real problem has been with the bowling. We have started poorly with the ball on a number of occasions, and not been consistent with it. Morkel has bowled really well at stages. Philander has been good when on the field and fit, but has spent all his time off it. Rabada has not looked his best. Morris had one good spell. Olivier is not going to be good enough at international level (I was hoping for more). I expected better discipline, our bowling has not finished off the English batting. It is part the depth of English batting, but basically in just about every innings SA let England get about a 100 more runs than they should have. The only bowler that has done his job consistently and taken wickets on top of that is Maharaj. And it has been our bowling more than anything that has kept SA competitive for the last 2 years. And part of the problem in this is our fielding, dropped to many catches and silly fielding errors.

I hope he is on 499 after that series. Be lovely to see his photo on a big screen with congratulations on 500 wickets in Brisbane.
